    Tony LaRussa

Ok, I just saw one of the dumbest managerial moves I've ever seen. So dumb, it deserves its own thread.

Phillies lead the Cardinals 5-2 in the 4th inning. Jimmy Rollins on 1B, David Dellucci batting, 2-2 count with 1 out. LaRussa calls for a 2-2 pitchout, thinking Rollins is running. Mind you, Chase Utley and his 33-game hitting streak wait on deck, with Ryan Howard behind him, but LaRussa decides to pitch out to run the count full on Dellucci with the middle of the order coming up. With a struggling pitcher on the mound, no less.

Then Weaver has to pipe a 3-2 fastball to Dellucci, and he homers. I know LaRussa is all avant garde when it comes to managerial decisions, but who the hell calls a 2-2 pitchout with the middle of the order coming up? They showed the Phillies bench and everyone was looking around like, "What the hell was that?"

    Very strange....

Because if it works, he's hailed as a genius.

I have never liked the guy or his pet pitching coach.

La Russa is a mad genius, just sometimes his schemes don't work. At least he's willing to try to break some of the established "rules" of baseball managing rather then sticking to the book like oh say, Hargrove in Seattle.

I guess he caught something from Charlie Manuel when they shook hands before the game.

LaRussa is the most overated manager in baseball history!
He had the best team in baseball for about 7 years in Oakland and won 1 WS.
He has had the best talent in the NL for about 5 years now and won nothing with it!
ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.
