Preston Wilson: Where is he headed?

He was DFA a few days ago, and Houston is to be said to looking to trade him.

Who is interested? ChiSox? Twins? Angels? Mets?

I haven't even looked at his numbers, but I could see the Twins or the Angels adding him. At this point, he really can't be trusted other than for a 6th inning meaningless at bat, where you gamble that he might take it out of the park. The guy strikes out way too much.

This guy is a mystery. It looked like he figured it all out a few years back when he was in Colorado, but I guess its just an example of Colorado artifically inflating a players #'s.

He has never figured it out. Yes, he had a solid year in Colorado in 2003, but a closer look shows he didn't do that great. Sure he had 141 RBIs and hit .282, but he only had an OPS of .880, including .795 on the road.

He is decent as a 4th outfielder, and you could do worse as having him at your DH, and he can be a decent pinch hitter off the bench, especially against lefties.

I could see the Twins making a small offer for him. He is a better bat than Lew Ford or Jason Kubel. And with the loss of Liriano, they might need a small boost, even if it is the strikeout machine Wilson.

Update - Per MLB.COM, it looks like the Rockies are going to get him. They've also added Vinny Castilla today. Who's next, David Neid? (if anyone remembers him +2 points)

Remember Wilson, your great year was not with humidified balls.

David Neid: Colorado's first pick in the 1992 expansion draft from the Atlanata Braves, went 14-18 in 4 seasons with the Rockies. His only notable claim to fame: he started the first game ever in Rockies history at Mile High stadium. Anyone know who started against and beat him?.

I just cheated and went on Retosheet.org, and it looks like thats the second game at Mile High Stadium. Pedro beat him with the ageless Jeff Fassero coming in for relief. Jeff "I look like Steve Bedrosian" Parett mopped up for Neid. Eric Young, still somehow in the game, ledoff for CO. Joe Girardi was the starting catcher for C. Nice lineup thrown out there by the Expos, even with Wil "I beat my wife" Cordero out there butchering it up at SS.

That info is wrong. the first official game the Rockies played in Colorado was against the Mets in april 1993 Dwight Gooden was the starter for the Mets. Pedro was still with the Dodgers, so that info must be from 1994.

Alright, now I'm just curious. Do you have a link?

I just checked it out on baseball-reference.com and it does look like they played the mets, but it was at NY.

Re: Preston Wilson: Where is he headed?

To clarify, we are both right. I'm right because they did play the Mets, you're right because it was in New York. Dwight Gooden pitched a 3 hit shutout in the game.

So David Neid started the first official game for the Rockies on april 5th 1993 at Shea stadium and Bryan Smith started the first official game at Mile High Stadium on april 9th 1993 against the Montreal Expos.
