Tom Glavine may be done for the year

Tom Glavine's season could be in jeopardy.

Glavine, 40, has experienced coldness in a finger on his pitching hand, and the New York Mets left-hander is scheduled to undergo medical tests next week in hopes of finding the cause, sources told the New York Daily News.

Glavine, a 287-game winner, is scheduled to have a CT scan Monday and an angiogram on Wednesday, the newspaper reported. Doctors are unsure whether Glavine's problem is related to a blood clot or possibly a "knot" in an artery near his left shoulder.

Agent Gregg Clifton confirmed Saturday that diagnostic tests are planned for next week, but he declined to elaborate. Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz would not acknowledge a medical issue.

Doctors apparently have ruled out an aneurysm, the newspaper reported. Last year, Mets reliever Felix Heredia experienced coldness and numbness in his pitching hand during April and ultimately was diagnosed with an aneurysm in the shoulder, which ended his Mets career.

Glavine (12-6, 3.92 ERA) hasn't been present in the clubhouse the past two days at Shea Stadium.

The loss of Glavine would be a serious blow to the Mets, who already have Pedro Martinez on the disabled list for the second time this season.

I hope this isn't something that ends his career...

Well, I don't care about how this impacts the Mets....but tough blow for Tommy G.

    Hopefully he'll be alright.

      That's scary stuff.

Oh, and the Mets are done if Pedro and Glavine have health issues headed into the playoffs.

I'm heard on the radio, that the media is making out to be more then what it is...He's getting checked this week, and we will know more then.

I hope that's the case...and not because the Mets need him for the playoffs....I just hope he's okay.

This sucks... He might be the last pitcher who has a chance to get to 300 wins. It would be a real disappointment if he is forced to retire when he's one season away from doing it.

I don't think the media is making this a bigger story than it really is. On the ESPN message boards a poster who says he's Glavine's brother, and really seems like he probably is (He has broken multiple stories on Glavine many hours before the media has picked the stories up) said that this was possibly season ending and maybe even career ending. So, we'll see.

Jeez hopefully it's not a blood clot. My family has seen people have tons of complications from those (granted they were old but still) and died.

For Glavine's sake I hope it's not career ending because he's one of the classier guys in baseball and has a legit chance at 300 wins.

I hope he's OK... And the effects of this on the Mets is a distant secondary thought... Anything like that is very scary. I went to the ER earlier this week to have myself checked out, because I had this dull aching sensation in my left arm and an slight intermittent pain in my chest. Thankfully it wasn't a sign of a stroke or heart attack or anything. But at first, it's very scary when you don't know what is actually going on.

Hopefully worst case scenario is that he will need surgery, his season is over, but he comes back next season and wins 13 games!

Either way, this does not bode well for the Mets...

Post says Tommy should be fine...

August 22, 2006 -- EXCLUSIVE Tom Glavine will be taking the mound again. A source told The Post last night that the Mets' All-Star left-hander - feared done for the season, maybe even for his career with a possible blood clot in his pitching shoulder - underwent an angiogram yesterday and will not require surgery.

The source said Glavine could be pitching sometime next week.

ESPN just confirmed it. No surgery for Glavine.

On Sunday it was feared Tom Glavine might miss the rest of the season. Now, the veteran Mets left-hander might be on the mound as soon as next week.

yeah - heard it was scar tissue from an old injury he had that was causing the clots.. he got a nice hand tonight when it was announced to the crowd before the game...
