    The Giants have given a 16-year old third baseman a $2.1 million signing bonus.

      Wow he turned 16 Aug 13 this year and he's 6-3 200. Must be something in the water down in the Dominican. I would have like to see the Red Sox land him, it would have been some good news in these depressing times .

          This isn't all that uncommon. Teams used to (and it looks like still do) offer big signing bonuses to players down there. It's not always used for pleasure and leisure tho as they're often sent to "camps" to train, get proper nourishment and instruction.

            It doesn't shock me. I believe Miguel Cabrera got tens of millions from the Marlins to develop/train/feed him when he was younger.
