    Ballpark Specific Homerun Animations?

How important is ballpark specific homerun reactions? Every stadium does something when the home team homers and is to me a huge part of the ballpark and game experience. However, game designers seem to be just catching up to this idea. Unless I'm wrong, I think MLB and World Series are the only games that have listed this as a feature. MLB flirted with this in their PSOne version of MLB and I can hear the train in Houston when the Astros homer in All Star. All Star is criticized for it's cut-scenes while World Series is critiqued for not being able to see the ball leave the park. I would prefer a combination of what All Star, MLB and High Heat do. High Heat shows the homerun and then the cut-scene as the replay. All Star has the ball hitting things over the fence which is always important. And MLB had a few stadium specifics such as fountains ect. Here's what we need, the ball is hit and leaves the field of play with the camera treating it as a playable ball creating the suspense. The replay would then show the ball hitting the upperdeck or whatever is out there in the cut-scene. Finished with the hitter rounding the bases with the Comerica Park fountain and Tiger roaring in Detroit, train at Minute Maid or fire works at where ever. Any thoughts on what would work because it's been stale in this area for baseball games for a while?

I'd love to see the fountains erupt in Colorado, the train chugging along in Minute Maid Park... but I don't really notice when I hit a home run and it doesn't happen. Not a big deal, but it would be nice.

its one of those things that would give baseball games more life. i like the idea of combining hh and asb. i like the ball hittin stuff but i need suspense. why can't they just use the cut-scenes as replays? in asb that is.

2ndBase, I could not agree with you more. The way you described what a homerun should be was DEAD ON ACCURATE!

I think one of the games has the Big Apple of Shea in it this year. It would be funny to see Bernie Brewer go down the slide after a Sexon HR. A rat running on the field at the Vet would be funny too.

2ndbase, your right on with some ideas, but my theory goes like this. If you hit absolute Bombs, the the cut scenes work for me, along with the signature blasts like Sosa's homeruns where he'll go into those hops when he knows its gone or Bond's glare, where he just stands there and watches it go into the Cove or wherever, Griffey& his signature homers.
I would like for the camera to follow the ball into the seats, where ya can see the ball bounce or rechochet off of things.
I like the suspense not knowing if you got all of the ball too, the announcers saying " it could be it might be it..... ohh what catch, he just robbed Bonds of his 4th homer of the game!!!!
stuff like that, but yea your right on them being stale in that department. Maybe we can all get together and send the developers some ideas into what they really need to put in our video games!!!

I never understood why it is so difficult to program in the homerun animations for certain ball parks, it's not like the new consoles couldn't handle those very difficult animations. (LOL)

Most of these animations listed in this post were in Home Run King. If you have a Cube you should defintly check it out. Blew ASB 2003 out of the water in my opinion.
