    Should Baseball Implement Instant Replay?

A good question as there are way too many close plays at the plate and first base. Should Major League Baseball adopt Instant Replay? Personally, I feel it should as there are way too many bang-bang plays and umpires make mistakes. What does everyone else think?

yeah, they need to be speeding the games up, not slowing them down with instant replay.

No instant replay please! What they need is a mandatory time frame for the batter to be ready. The batters these days have to go through a freaking ritual after EVERY pitch. That would help. Going back to stadiums instead of glorified phone booths to play in would also be nice.

I would have to say no, BUT the umpire's that make the bad calls should be FIRED!!!!!!! my SF Giants get snubbed too many times by umps' and it costs them.

Also, they could use tha big screens to replay it, then let the fans cheer, or boo the umpires.

There are too many practices such as the understood rule that a player is out at 2nd if the ball gets there first. This would always be contested. If they were to use technology what Id like to see is there be sensors placed at the batters armpits, his knees, and the corners of the plate to tell whether the pitch was a strike. It would really be better than the varying strikezones that are in practice now. This, might also speed up the game.

For the love of all that's holy, no!

What they need to do is call the actual strike zone, and start calling strikes or balls when the batters or pitchers keep delaying the game. I don't care how long games are - but I know a lot of people do, and there is a lot of wasted time in MLB games...

Baseball is played by humans, and it's umpired by humans. I think that's part of it's charm. Besides, if you looked at an MLB season as a whole, I'd bet you that MLB umpires make the right call 99% of the time - no matter how much fun it may be to razz them - the fact of the matter is that they do an awfully good job of calling the game... with the exception of that strike zone, of course...

Maybe they should implement something like the NFL where they can only challenge 2 calls per game or something.
And what about this mechanical umpire? Do you think they should put a censor on the strike zone so that balls and strikes are called accurately and consistently, rather than weighing human error into the equation? Personally, I feel that human umpires should continue calling balls and strikes because different umpires have different strike zones and I think this is an essential part of the game. It keeps every game unique and original.

Padgoi, you sure the bad calls aren't part of some big baseball conspiracy? Maybe aliens are bribing Selig to screw up America's pasttime? I could get Mulder on the phone.

There should absolutely not be instant replay in baseball. If that want to improve the umping, they should first enforce a standard strike zone for every pitcher and every batter. Then they should quit giving out assumed calls. Make the turn man actually touch second on a DP and make the tagger actually tag the runner to get an out.

Instant replay would be an unwelcome intrusion. Very, very unwelcome.
