    No, probably I wouldn't either....

Re: Never Played World Series But Have One Big Question?

The point is, it's going to be unrealistic becuse it's a video game. Batters don't swing in one of nine zones. They don't move a cursor from here to there. They don't have a giant collision radius on their bat...it's exactly as big as the bat they are holding!

Every batting system is an abstraction of what a hitter actually does to hit the ball (meaning you don't tell the hitter to move his arms thus, lift his leg, etc.) Simplified batting mechanics serve two purposes--they make it possible to control the batter with just a gamepad (instead of needing a motion detector, a bat peripheral, etc.) and they make it so that people who don't know the kinematics of swinging can swing as well as anyone else.

With that in mind, there's no reason to call the tilty cursor in ASB "unrealistic." It's an abstraction of many things a real batter does, just like every batting system in every video game. The question, then, is not whether it's good to have the thing at all, but whether it's implemented and tuned in a way that is Fun and Balanced. If you can use it to hit line drives in the gaps every play, obviously there would need to be some more tuning. If it's awkward and unenjoyable, then it needs to be altered so it's fun to do. That's doesn't mean that a tilty cursor should never be in a baseball game; it just needs to be done right, or at least made optional. ASB's may be done well...I don't know...because it IS optional. Why complain if you aren't forced to use it? I thought options were always good?
