O's Fans Walk Out During Game

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2597721

A protest by some fans, only about 1,000 participated, but it was still noticed.

A classy quote from Angelos on the organizer of the protest:
"He is a very unimportant person who has delusions of grandeur," Angelos said.
That's the way to win back fans!

I f****n' LOVE it, no doubt. I visit Orioles Hangout often, and I've known about this for about 2 months, and I'm surprised Nestor Aparicio (the guy Angelos calls unimportant) got this all together and rounded up so many people. It's about time we as Orioles fans did something, the city of Baltimore doesn't deserve such a terrible, poorly mismanaged team. I would have loved to go to this game because it was a great idea and it was well executed. Props to Nestor and other O's fans for finally taking a stand.

Some pretty arrogant quotes from Angelos in that article. The way to get on the fans' good side is to say he's committed to making the team better and he's sorry his plans haven't come to fruition yet, not to insult the intelligence of the fans who pay his salary by telling them they're too dumb to understand why the team isn't any good.

Cool idea by the protestors. The only flaw in their plan is that it involved buying around 1000 tickets to a game. The way to hurt ownership is to hit them in the only place that matters to most of them - their wallet. An empty seat speaks a lot louder than a walkout, imo.
      Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.
Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is.

True, but I think any protest held outside of Camden Yards, violent or not, would have been broken up early. I think walking out early sent a crystal clear message.

It makes me so happy when I see fans sending messages like that to their team... No one deserves that long of a drought of success.

Now we just got to get the Warriors and Raiders fans together to send our own message...

I agree, plus the instant publicity from doing this during a game is worth much more than the price of those 1000 tickets. The negative publicity(especially after those stupid comments) Angelos will receive after this will do more harm than 1,000 ticket sales will be able to fix.

The list of things a relatively small group of concerned/frustrated fans can do to actually get noticed is pretty short. They did well in planning and carrying this out. It isn't much, but, if nothing else, it makes people sit up and take notice.

Nestor Aparicio is a sports radio personality who owns his own station. He used to be on Sporting News Radio. Goes by the nickname "Nasty". Has a pretty big following, and definately not an unimportant guy.

Re: O's Fans Walk Out During Game

I was there with the group and I honestly have never felt that proud at an Orioles game ever. I'm only 16 so my memories of the O's are mainly losing seasons but it felt right to be out there. The numbers don't look impresive but for me it was a solid taste of what are fans are willing to give to this team that is just in chains. To have Angelos say those comments just lets the rest of the country know how much of a arrogant self-centered *** he is. All he needs to do is look accross the damn parking lot at the ravens to see the RIGHT way to run an ORGANIZATION. It is just a toy and a power statement for him. He doesn't have the balls to be a man and do whats best for the city which is admidt hes wrong, apologize, ask for forgiveness, and sell the damn team. Sorry for me venting but this is a sad sad baseball franchise right now and there is not much to look forward to until that man takes the initiative. cya

Good for the Orioles fans, it shows they really care about the team. I hope Cubs fans see this and do the same thing. Of course they will all be stumbling out since Wrigley is the worlds biggest beer garden.

I just saw this. Awesome is all that I can say. Angelos is a f'n scum bag. The above poster mentioned Cub fans doing this. It would never happen. I haven't given them my money for the 2 1/2 years, but behind me there are tens of thousands that would kill to take my place. I don't want to get fired up, so I will stop here.

The stupid protest isn't going to do anything. Heck those idiots actually gave money to Angelos by buying tickets to the game.

The real way to go after management is buy all the tickets you want, just don't buy anything while you're there and take public transportation to the park. If the fans did either one of those things, then I'd say they would hit them in the pockets.
