Re: Joe Girardi out as Marlin's manager

If and when the Cubs fire Baker Girardi should be Jim Hendry's first and only choice, but we are talking about the Cubs and if given alf a chance they will find a way to screw this up.

Seattle could be interesting but they will probably go after Baker if they fire Mike Hargrove.

Toronto probably will not fire John Gibbons since he and J.P. Ricciardi seem to like the highschool way they run this team. If Gibbons were to be fired then i imagine Ernie Whitt or Paul Molitor would top their list.

Texas could also be a possibility. There have been rumblings about the Rangers possibly letting Buck Showalter go after this season. If history has taught us anything it is every time Showalter gets fired the team wins the World Series the next season, so Rangers fans should be excited about this.

Re: Joe Girardi out as Marlin's manager

Despite a season that far exceeded expectations, the Florida Marlins will move quickly this week to dismiss manager Joe Girardi and name a successor, a source familiar with the Marlins situation told ESPN Insider's Jerry Crasnick.

According to the source, the chances are "99 out of 100" that Girardi's replacement will be Braves third-base coach Fredi Gonzalez.

While there's always two sides to every story, it seems like this is just a stupid move.

as a marlins fan i would like to see joe stay.. obviously there is a clash between the FO and him..

I would like to think that they can all be grown ups and settle their differences, however I rather have the club keep Beinfest than Girardi if it came down to it.

Not to mention i believe Fredi Gonzalez will be an excellent manager.

So can someone tell me more bout this Gonzalez guy? Hopefully he's better then the last Braves 3B coach turned manager.

I would be happy with either.

Gonzalez is a hot commodity right now. He's interviewed for several jobs the last few years and hasn't caught on with anyone, but I'd say either the Cubs or Marlins will end up with him. He carries with him a great reputation and Cox and Schuerholz love him.

he managed.coached in the minor leagues for a long time before joining the marlins as a 3rd base coach from 99-01.

then joined the braves and has learned under bobby cox

                  here is his full bio

Fredi Gonzalez is in his fourth season as the Braves third base coach after spending 2002 as manager of their Triple-A Richmond affiliate.

Gonzalez, 42, was the Florida Marlins third base coach from 1999 through 2001. Before joining the Marlins major league club, he managed in the minor leagues for nine years, earning league manager of the year honors from Baseball America three times: in 1993 when High Desert finished 82-52 in the regular season and won the Class-A California League championship; in 1994, when Brevard County went 78-61 in the Class-A Florida State League; and in 1997, when he guided Portland (ME) to a 79-63 record and first place in the AA Eastern League.

Gonzalez began his managerial career in 1990, taking over the unaffiliated Miami Miracle of the Florida State League with 20 games to play. He continued with the Miracle in 1991 before becoming the first minor league manager in Marlins franchise history in 1992, leading Erie to the New York-Penn League championship series. After spending 1993 with High Desert, he managed Brevard County from 1994 through 1996, and then moved up to Portland in 1997 and Charlotte of the AAA International League in 1998.

Selected by the New York Yankees in the 16th round of the 1982 June draft, Gonzalez spent six seasons as a catcher in the Yankees farm system.

Gonzalez, his wife Pamela, daughter Gabrielle and son Alex Christopher reside in Marietta, GA.
