    Ryan Howard NL MVP???

Do you think he should get it? I think it should be unanimous. This being his second year and only his first full season and putting up numbers like this. I remembered when the phills drafted him and they were calling him the next willie stargel. I was thinking man that is a hall fame player you are comparing this young player too, but boy has he been a pleasant surprise. Oh and after this year the phillies or going to have to break the bank on keeping him. He might demand AROD numbers this offseason

Hands down. The Phils look like the WC favs now, but even if they don't win the WC, he should win hands down. No doubt about it.

Imo it's very close between Howard and Pujols but I'd give the nod to Howard.

No one is more responsible for this unexpected surge put on by the Phillies than Ryan Howard. The fact that the team has been in contention for the Wild Card this long makes him the MVP even if the Phillies come up short.

He should get it without a shadow of a doubt in my mind. If he isn't named MVP then there's seriously something wrong with the voting.

Now that the Phils' record is pretty much the same as the Cards, Howard should easily win the NL MVP.

I hope he wins it. I like Pujols too but the way the Phillies have come back into the race, he's a huge reason why. I think he's earned the hardware.

Exactly. Had this last month gone any differently, I think the voters would have given it to Pujols. But this last month has really shown what Howard means to that team. It's not that Pujols has not been doing his part so much as Howard has done his part, and then some.

He should be a shoe-in at this point, unless Coste rightfully beats him out.

I know you're being sarcastic, but that's good stuff right there.

If the Phils make the playoffs and this dude doesn't get MVP, then voting is really rigged. I'd even give it to him if they lose out on the wild card by a game or two.

Even if the Phils DON'T make the playoffs....this guy deserves it. Yikes for us Mets fans if we have to face the Phils for the NLCS! He's the one guy in the league I don't want to have to pitch to with the game on the line right now.

                            Re: Ryan Howard NL MVP???

for those of you saying Howard is a shoe-in

I dunno.. Pujols has 19 game winning Home runs this year so far.. the most since Willie Mays 19.. in 1962.

                            that's just rediculous!

that home run Pujols hit last night with the season on the line off un-hittalbe Meredith (0.72 ERA) to win the game confirms to me Pujols is the MVP again this year. biggest home run of his career.. even bigger than the Lidge Homer last year in the playoffs.

"Then there is the most damning statistic to Howard's candidacy. Howard has struck out 173 times, a rate of once every 3.2 at-bats. How is that possibly valuable? Howard already has struck out more times than any MVP. Ever. That's a far cry from 173 and counting. Pujols' strikeout rate? Once every 10.5 at-bats. Pujols has struck out 165 times in the past three years."

                            hmmmm

I think Pujols is batting .455 or something like that with runners in scoring position and 2 outs. I know it's something insane like.. I'm sorry but Pujols is hand down MVP the way I look at it. of course I'm a homer but I don't think many people outside St. Louis really pay attention to how valuable he really is.. The only stats howard has on el hombre is Home Runs and RBIs.. and of course that is what everyone looks at first. I'm a big fan of Howard too.. he's from St. Louis as well and I watched him in high school.

I will post more glaring stats to why Pujols should be MVP later...

oh.. here we go for now.. Bernie helped me out on the stltoday forums..

Who has the better lineup around him? Howard.

Who has done more with less? Pujols.

Who has the most game-winning hits and game-winning HRs? Pujols.

Better fielder and base runner? Pujols.

                            More win shares? Pujols.

The Mang is now hitting .398 with RISP ... and a preposterous .454 with RISP and two outs ...

Howard in the same categories: .252 (RISP) and .237 (RISP2).

                            It's almost comical.

                            --B

                            Pujols is the real MVP..

with that said.. if Howard gets MVP.. I wont argue or get upset..

ps. I think the voters will vote Howard MVP.. lets just wait until the end though.. Pujols might save the Cardinals season a couple more times. haha

I'll guarantee you that if the Cardinals do end up pulling this collapse of epic proportions and miss the playoffs, then Pujols will not win the MVP.
