Mauer is a better defensive catcher, better pure hitter, better baserunner, and a better game caller. McCann hits more home runs, so everyone assumes he is better.

Considering that Mauer is running away here and that the only people voting for Mac are Braves fans, I would hardly say that everyone is assuming "[McCann] is better" because he has hit more homers.

I'd go with McCann. He is cheaper.

Overall, Mauer is the more complete baseball player. You can't pass on an athlete like him. Even after his catching days, he has a future at another position, IMO.

Mauer is dating Miss America no?

If he is or any sort of model he wins.

Can I pick option C and go with Gerald Laird? Kind of an underrated catcher who can run and play well defensively. He's caught more than 50% of attempted base stealers this year, and 45% in his career.

He might be a little older, but he has the tools to be better than either of the two mentioned, and when he starts full time next year he should be able to prove himself.

And when he does, like trying to provide the insightful color commentary ESPN pays him for, it's completely erroneous...on all accounts.

It is just the truth, I have watch a lot of ball players that start out like the next Johnny Bench and then go know where. I am just not sold of them yet. They might be superstars it is just to early for me to tell.
I think they can be good players. If I was to chose one it would be Mauer. I think he handle a pitching staff better.

I like McCann as a Braves fan, and he's a very good catcher, but I'm going with Mauer in this one. From what I've seen of him, he's better in the field and better at getting on base than McCann. Brian's got the power and it's a close call, but I'll take Mauer right now.
