I don't believe an official word was ever given as to what he was suffering from. If I am recalling correctly though, he was seeing a psychologist at some point during all this. -

I read somewhere where he was upset about constantly losing and it finally got to him. His whole life, everybody told him how good he was and then he gets to the bigs and didn't play well.
Also read rumors about heavy marijuana usage, which I believe is rampant in baseball anyway, that led in to him being apathetic, uncaring, etc. Some local radio station interviewed him during his time out of baseball earlier this year, and yeah his comments are wayyyyy out there. He definitely sounded stoned, not that I would know anything about that... But anyway, in the interview, (I can't go find it now, but it's online somewhere), he states how he cried for days and days when he found out Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears broke up. Long story short, either he's really weird, or on some heavy drugs.Lux y VeritasComment

I've heard it had something to do with depression, and speaking as someone who is very close to someone who continues to deal with that, I hope he is enjoying life a little more now.Comment

Heard the same interview, except he was upset over Jennifer Anniston and Brad Pitt splitting up. And he has some fascination with Pitt too.
