Re: Zito: Big Time Free Agent?
Consider the source before you attack me because, well he was known to stare off into space as well.....
Bill "Spaceman" Lee was on the radio here today and he was talking about Zito. He basically thinks there's something wrong with Zito's mental makeup. Zito can lose his composure very easily and basically be off in another world rather then being focused when the chips are down.
Is this the guy you really want to see in a major market where the expectations are through the roof?
I think not.
I wouldn't mind him on the Dodgers, but he doesn't deserve Lowe money - Lowe doesn't deserve Lowe money!I think Padres are going to get him though - that is a massive ballpark and the Padres need help winning in their own park - still won't be a number 1 on the Padres.

I hope the Yanks stay far away from him.
His laid-back surfer dude attitude wouldn't fit in that great in the Bronx, IMO.
I think the main problem with Zito is his mentality. He just has that laid back "meh" southern California attitude, and that keeps him from getting back to his 2002 form.
It'll be interesting to see where he ends up. I could see him being a 100% total bust if the Yankees sign him."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Zito: Big Time Free Agent?
I consider myself a "interested observer" of the A's.
I don't see how anybody can question Zito's mental makeup. I also chuckle when people point out how Zito doesn't rise to the occasion. People must have a short-term memory. He just dominated the Twins a week ago.
His VORP the last 2 seasons are 41.1 and 51. I don't consider him to be one of the elite pitchers in baseball, but he would vastly improve whatever team he signs with.Comment

Re: Zito: Big Time Free Agent?
Only because there aren't a whole lot of good FA pitchers.
He's good, but he's a #2 or #3. Good pitcher but not worth the money he will most likely get.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Zito: Big Time Free Agent?
He's not an ace, but someone will pay him like one. I think he'll end up a Met, and the Yankees will target Matsuzaka. He may prefer the West Coast, but he won't be able to turn down the money Omar is willing to line his pockets with.Comment
