MLB Rant: I hate this split coverage!

Can someone explain to me the wisdom of having the ALCS Game #2 and NLCS Game #1 on at the same time?!

I know this isn't completely new but it's one of the most idiotic things that MLB has done in recent years. People complain that MLB is losing the next generation of fans, well splitting your audience like this doesn't exactly help their cause.

Has it ever occurred to Bud Light Selig that baseball fans want to see BOTH series in their entirety? Ok, I can kinda understand having both games on the same day. That's fine, just put one of the games on at 4 PM then.

This is just crappy for fans like me that want to watch all the games in their entirety

I find it stupid as well. I guess with so many people having access to DVR or TiVo, it's not as much of a problem nowadays as it would've been in years past.

I heard Bud Selig, "Just wants to get this Season Over With".

          Just kidding!

It's obvious that MLB has lost it's mind in how to market their product.

If Selig or his marketing partners ever actually gave a reason for their programming idiocy they'd argue it's better for ratings to have games on at 8pm.

But, they overlook the marketing potential of having ANOTHER game before that. Two games at once basically kills off ratings. It may benefit them today in terms of marketing dollars, but it greatly affects the future of marketing potential. When less fans are watching one game, companies and channels will turn to low ratings and negotiate a weaker tv contract as a result.

This is like running a business and paying two salesmen to work for you. Then deciding you'll have both salesmen make one call (the same call) for you in three hours instead of having each one make seperate calls to broaden your sales potential.

Can't argue this. I mean the NBA switches back and forth between Eastern and Western Finals. I wouldn't expect MLB to do that but whats wrong with putting a game on a 4.

It's pretty much that no one cares about the ALCS outside of Detroit and Oakland.

Um, they did this last year with the FOX and FX Network broadcast of both LCSs at the same time. Why is it such a surprise now? Is there something I'm missing here?

It's not a surprise but it's still a problem. As yankeepride_YP so eloquently put it, it's killling the future marketing and revenue dollars for MLB. I thought that they'd learn from last year but apparently not.

Yeah, I seem to remember them doing this in 2003 with the Cubs and Red Sox playing at the same time...I seem to remember having two tvs going side by side. LOL

What makes you so sure its MLB and not Fox that influences this?

It's probably a bit of both but does FOX really have anything going on at 4 PM that NEEDS to be shown?

It probably has more to do with what they can charge advertisers. The 4 oclock timeslot is probably not even close to prime time...and the network probably has done some research to arrive at the point where they feel like they can mazimize their income by ensuring a bigger audience in primetime than having a 4 oclock game and showing 2 games.
