    Alphonso Soriano rejects $70M offer

According to CBS SportsLine, Alphonso Soriano rejects the Nationals 5-year, $70M contract offer.

Hahahaha, that's what Jim Bowden get for demanding an arm and a leg when teams were asking about Soriano before the trading deadline passed. I bet Bowden feels like a damn fool now for getting virtually nothing for him when he eventually signs with another team.

That's a lot of cash to turn down and it will be interesting to see how many teams can actually afford him.

The way he played this year, it could take $100 million to net him. I'm thinking more in the neigborhood of $80-90 Million, though. He and Vernon Wells will be rich men after this offseason.

Scary thing is a team will give him what he wants.

It's not scary because it's Soriano. We can argue against his defense and his lack of walks, but the man hits homeruns and steals bases in bunches. He can draw crowds and make a franchise exciting. He surely helped the Nationals look better than a last place team.

It's scary because every year owners say they will spend less and that the market is too high. But, every year they do exactly the same as the year before.

That could come back to bite him. I guess he's not willing to play outfield any more. Reading this reminds me of Bengie Molina last year.

I don't see this coming back to bite him at all, worst case scenario he'll find 70 mil somewhere else, odds are he finds more than that though.

No way would I pay Soriano 100 Mil.

I think he'll probably net around 70 mil at the most but I have a feeling if Sori and his agent play too much hardball then he's going to end up signing for far less money then he anticipated.

It's a gamble that's worth taking if you're looking for maximum money but it could bite you on the arse.

I think Nomar might want to give this guy a call about turning down large figures like those...

Cliff will be gone, he would fit right in the Mets lineup in Left Field.. if he is willing to play OF..

Well, this expensive initial offer pretty much rules the Orioles out of it. How depressing.

I highly doubt he'll switch back to a 2B, especially considering teams will be paying him to play the OF most likely. He's much more atrocious at 2B defensively anyways.

I like to see this come back and bite him in the behind.

I think Minaya will bid on Soriano.

I wouldn't mind seeing him in left field next year.

$75 would have been more of a better starting point, but this will do for now. Come back home to play RF for us.

Cubs could use an outfielder, so hopefully they'll bite. I have no problem with them giving him $75-$85 million.
