    Question for you guys

    Hello,
I haven't owned a console since the Sega Genesis, but I bought an XBox yesterday. I'm such a huge college football fan and I saw some videos of NCAA 2003 and decided I had try it. Well, I'm kind of disappointed. You see, I'm generally a sports sim guy. I like games like Strat-O-Matic baseball because they produce realistic results. That's what I'm looking for in a baseball game.

I own High Heat 2003 for the PC. I think it's a good game, but it's really pretty easy to hit. I can take the worst team in the game and Randy Johnson will only strike me out 2 times in an entire game. That's not realistic.

What I'm looking for is a game that really simulates Major League hitting. I want a 97 MPH fastball to take the same amount of time to reach the plate that it does in real life (what's that...1/3 of a second?). I want realistic throwing from the fielders and baserunning that is true to life in both speed and intelligence.

Since I'm disappointed in the football game, I'm seriously considering selling the XBox. The only thing that would make me consider keeping it is the promise of a really good baseball game on the horizon. Is there such a thing? Is anything on the way?

    Re: Question for you guys

Not till next spring, but there should be a good selection:

    All Star Baseball
    High Heat
    World Series

If you like strato-matic, You would love Out Of The Park 4 for PC. www.ootp4.com

OOTP was my favorite game this year,

Stay away from Triple Play. And did you adjust the sliders in HH, and what level are you playing on?

Well, you say the All Star will be out next spring. But, I have read horrible reviews about the game this year. What will make next year better? Same for World Series. I've read a review on one of the game sites that gave it 90/100, but I've read wish lists for the game from this forum asking for CPU tag-ups and more walks for CPU pitchers. If the CPU won't tag up, the game stinks! I want a competitive CPU and difficult gameplay where each game is a challenge and not a gimme after about 40 games. As for High Heat, there weren't any sliders in the PC version of 2003. I was playing on the highest level available. Again, I want a 97 MPH fastball to really be 97 MPH. Is that asking too much?

This is a no-brainer... clearly ASB for you from this year's games.

            Re: Question for you guys

what I am saying is you won't find one you like this year. High Heat is the most realistic of the 3 though. So I am hoping next year (as usual) that one of the games above will step up.

Have you tried OOTP4? it is a text sim but very addictive.

Well, I like real players and I think OOTP is a fictional player game isn't it?

Rent both ASB and WSB. IMO WSB is the better game.

You can dowload the real players for OOTP4. Keeps career stats, players go to the Hall of Fame. Very in depth game.

SC3BBall, he specifically mentioned wanting 97mph pitches to look that speed, smart baserunning, and a competitive CPU. Those might be the three categories where the gap is biggest between this year's ASB and WSB.

It sounds, to me, that WSB's baserunning issues alone would ruin the game for this particular player.

So, you're saying that pitches look like Major League speed in ASB? Also, where are the sliders in High Heat PC?

sorry, i cant seem to find the sliders, but i kno they are there. I have seen them before in the game. I downloaded the game off of kazaa so i do not have the inmstruction book. I can barely play the game. All i use is enter and the arrows to hit and pitch. I dont kno how to baserun.

You could only be happy with HH2003 for PS2. Sliders galore (including fastball speed) to make the game as hard as you want it. The stats in the season I played were perfect and I ended up going 84-78 with the Indians and missed the playoffs. Fast paced, challenging, fun, brilliant AI and addicting. I played WSB for about a month and then had to go back to HH...much more fun for true baseball fans.

There are tune files for the PC version of High Heat, not sliders. Check out the downloads section of baseballsimcentral.com for tune files that people have created, or visit their forums for advice on changing the tune file to match your desired settings. I'd definitely stick with High Heat for actually playing games, or OOTP for simming them (I was a big Strat-O-Matic fan back in the day, when Bases Loaded represented the pinnacle of baseball video gaming).
