The Cleveland Indians signed OF Trot Nixon to a 1 year deal today (3 million)

When I saw that I said to myself:

"Self, this is a huge bargain basement signing. He's going to mean a lot to Cleveland and provide leadership."

Hopefully his stay in Cleveland ends up being longer then a year.

also Reds traded David Shafer & PTBNL to Oakland for pitcher Kirk Saarloos & PTBNL...I'm diggin' the Saarloos trade here. He has a variety of pitches, including a 4-seam fastball, a curveball, a slider, and a changeup. However, his best pitch by far is his mid-to-high 80's sinker. For this reason, Saarloos is known predominately as a sinkerball specialist,( GABP & sinker specialist...ohh yeah) and as such gets few strikeouts (batters tend to hit groundballs when faced with a sinker). In fact, his 2.99 strikeouts per 9 innings in 2005 ranked 3rd to last in Major League Baseball, and was the lowest mark in Oakland Athletics history for a starting pitcher.

Darrin Erstad to sign with the White Sox for $1 million for 1 year.

Not a bad signing considering Podsednik is going to be out for 6 weeks due to groin surgery. Most important, the White Sox didn't give him a boat load of money like some of the other free agents this off season.
