    "In the Clutch" on ESPN

I know not everyone agrees that there's even such a thing as a "clutch player", but on ESPN right now there's this show naming the clutchest players of 2006 by position, narrated by Michael Chiklis for some reason...

Here they are, if anyone cares:

    C Mauer
    1B Pujols
    2B Utley
    3B Wright
    SS Jeter
    LF Crawford
    CF Beltran
    RF Dye
    DH Ortiz

    SP Santana

LOL @ Beltran striking out to end NY's season, and being named the clutchest CF in the game.

You know what, even though I'm not a firm believer of clutch, I would want everyone of those players on my team because they are very good players. Very good players usually perform well.

See where I'm going with this?
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

Don't mind having Wright in the regular season but the post-season is a different story. Also i'll take Rivera over any other closer on any day ever.

How is Nathan the closer over Rivera?

Meh, I am a firm believer in the concept of clutch, but this isn't a very helpful list. It's mainly naming the best players at each position more or less.

So you're saying this based on Wright's huge body of work in the postseason?

Well, he has some work to do to disprove his first impression.

It's not only striking out, but not swinging at a third strike right down broadway.
                  Nevertheless, he messed up.
