Well the owners are all pretty stupid as well.

I honestly could care less if the All Star game ends in a tie, it's a freakin All- Star game what's the big deal, it proves nothing.

I'm the last guy in the world that likes the idea.

It's light years ahead of the ole alternating system they got going.

Doing it by record could be ok, but I just like this idea and its impact on the all star game. I might actually care to watch past the first two innings if it actually meant something.

When I was a kid I used to care who won the All - Star game, but now to me it is not a big deal, if this will make people care more, then I guess it is OK, but I have a feeling it isn't going to really change the way the players play the game.

It's a new idea, but I don't think it matters either way. It wouldn't make me care about the All-Star game anymore than I currently do. I think it's a good thing that the players get to go out and have some fun with the best other players in the game. Although I wouldn't mind seeing the team with the best record overal get the homefield advantage in the World Series. That makes a little more sense than how they have it, but either way I don't think it makes that big of a difference. What is important are the games themselves not where they are played.

There is an advantage to homefield, especially in the world series. I think this could backfire in some cases. If torre manages the game again(and he will eventually) he'll take his whole damn team. Put the whole yankee squad out there and try to win the game almost like a regular game. Before he was taking like 8 guys about 4 of them qualified. Now he'll have even more incentive to do that. Whatever, I think they should just let whoever has the better overall record be homefield, its the most practical thing to do.

Good point Kerplunk, the managers of the All star team would probably have the most incentive to win and a scenario you present isn't that far fetched.

Pinck, if he wants to win back fans he needs to stop trying. Thats the problem. selig is too meddlesome.

Arenas, i like the point you make about making the HR derby have consequences toward the layout of the season.

If he wants to ensure the allstar game wont end in a tie he doesnt have to go to such riducuolously drastic measures as this. Selig is like a mad scientist and anyone who is a purist constantly gets dumped on by Selig. In order tto win new fans why does MLB have to alienate all of there old fans. I guess the dye was cast when they got rid of Vincen, a real commissioner, for Selig. The only thing I can tell that Selig has done, which doesnt benefit the public, is he has convinced the owners to have a united front to let him speak for them. MLB-- grab a clue. Its hard for them to find the answer to the problem when they dont even know what the problem is.

I have a question about the managers for the all-star game..I know u take the managers from the previous season who played in the WS. So will it be Mike Scioscia and Dusty Baker or will it be Felipe Alou since he's the current Giant manager I didnt know what happen if the manager for the team who went to the world series left that team. Does he still become manager for the All-Star game.
