Gary Sheffield Going Out In Style

Words really can't describe how hilarious this guy is.

I think I speak for a majority of RS fans when I say, Gary.... We'll miss you. Please don't go so soon.

“He’s a good player, but like I say, you can draw it up any kind of way, he ain’t me, and that’s the bottom line. I understood them having to make this move for the remainder of the season but ... I always was told that you leave because somebody’s better than you, and I don’t think that’s the case here.”
That would be Gary on Bobby Abreu.

“I’ve produced ever since I got here. If it wasn’t for me the first year, in 2004, we wouldn’t have made the playoffs. I went out and put up big numbers against Boston for us to win that division. ... It wasn’t some mystery man. It was myself.”
Gary on his incredible, once in a lunar eclipse talent.

“He might as well get ready. There’s nobody.”
Gary on A-Rod. Pretty interesting insight on what the Yankee clubhouse must be like.

    And last but not least...

“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.”
Gary on his injured wrist and 'astounding' return this year.

    This guy is money.

    Edit: Overlooked this nugget.

Sheffield also said that dropping Rodriguez to sixth and then to eighth in the batting order messed with his head.

"Knowing him, yes it did," Sheffield said.

I don't think Sheff ever caused any problems when he was in Atlanta. But obviously those days are gone now.

LMAO, the best was his comment on Abreu.

        What a clown.

I will miss watching him 'swing for the fences'. Overall, have no bad memories during his stint...only positive.

Sheesh he must be delusional to think that at this point in his career that he's better then Abreu.

Hey as long as he doesn't play in the AL East i'm happy.

Actually, its not like Abreu put up monster numbers last year. He played well after the trade but overall his body of work probably doesn't put him on Sheffield's level. He's younger though and less likely to get hurt so it makes more sense for the Yankees to keep him.

I've always liked Sheffield, but some of the things he says are downright ********. More examples of this in the first post of this thread.

He has since admitted he was young an immature when he did that. Remember, the Brewers rushed him into the Majors without proper training. IIRC, he intentionally over threw a ground ball because he was given an error on a bad throw by Darryl Hamilton, so that Hamilton could end the season with 0 errors. Hard to blame him when he gets the blame like that and was so young.

No, it is not hard to blame him at all. It is a freakin stat. Big deal. What is it, the end of the world when you get charged with an error you didn't commit? I think not.

He was a complete douchebag then, and he's a complete douchebag now. He has not matured one bit from his time in the minors with Milwaukee through the comments that he just made.

He's not that power hiter he once was... but Abreu was 8th in the MLB in OBP and he had a bunch of huge hits for us. I'd take him over Sheffield easily even before last season. Sheff's not the hitter he used to be. Plus...hes an idiot.

I don't have a problem with anything he said. I wish he could come back.

Players like him are what the Yankees really need. Guys who step into the field and believe they are the best.

Reggie Jackson basically said the same things and everyone loves him. Why? Because he won a ring.

Not Sheffield's fault the Yankees haven't won a championship since 2000. In fact, he could be right when he says that his play helped the Yankees make the playoffs in 2004. If it didn't, what did it do?
