Re: Jaret Wright to Baltimore
I though Wright wasnt too bad last season. He gave you the same thing every start: 5-6 IP 2-3 ER
We need another starter badly.

Re: Jaret Wright to Baltimore
I suppose Muss probably wouldn't do it, but why as a team, would you make a trade that gives a player you're negotiating with more leverage?“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.” - Sheffield on SheffieldComment

Re: Jaret Wright to Baltimore
Excellent deal for the Yanks...They actually got a young pitcher for a 5 inning pitcher. Britton, from what I read, has some decent potential as well as conditioning issues. I love that in 3 days the Yanks have gotten 4 young pitchers. That makes me feel great about their direction.
They'll sign the starters. Wright hurt them more than helped them last year--5 innings a turn is a drain on the rotation.Formerly Favre4vrComment

Re: Jaret Wright to Baltimore
I don't think he would use the trade as leverage either. I'm sure they have had talks with him about coming back, and obviously he wants to or else they would not have traded Wright.NBA: New York Knicks

Re: Jaret Wright to Baltimore
I just went to read a little more about Britton. 278 pounds! Seems to have a good strikeout rate vs. righties. Here's his splits from ESPN. All in all, not a bad return (although nothing great) for a 5 and fly guy.

Re: Jaret Wright to Baltimore
Problem, though, is the Yanks desperately needed him to be a 6-7 inning guy with a high 4 ERA (in other words, a solid 3 in the rotation).
His 5 and done work was akin to a 5 guy in the rotation. With Johnson pitching like a AA pitcher shot up straight to the majors and no real dominant ace (face it, Mussina and Wang are number 2 guys now - especially, for what is expected out of Yankee-land) Wright was hurting the rotation and bullpen."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Another great trade for a guy that was gone anyway. Both Wright and Sheff were as good as gone and the Yanks got something for them.Yankees

I think the only good thing about this is that it makes Kris Benson or Rodrigo Lopez expendable and could help land us the power bat that we need.Comment
