Re: Jays closing in on deal with Frank Thomas

I'm not a big fan of this contract but I can't really judge it until I see all the other off-season moves.

If the Thomas signing restricts JP from getting starting pitching, than I don't like it. If the Jays still have the cash to fill the other needs on the team, than the dollars isn't that big of a deal.

I do think you're pushing your luck if you think a 39 an 40 year old Thomas will produce like last season.

In the span of 2 seasons, the Jays have really upgraded the middle of the order. 2 years ago it was Wells/Koskie/Hillenbrand and now we have Rios/Wells/Thomas/Glaus/Overbay. Thomas should hit a lot of bombs at the RC. At least we won't see somebody like Dave Berg getting AB's at the DH spot. We also don't have to give up a 1st rounder to sign Thomas.

With the way the market is going for OF's, the Jays should see what's out there for Wells. I would love to see Bonderman or Jered Weaver in a Jays uni. In order to compete, the Jays need to get a upper rotation pitcher and not just a league average one.

I think you mean Jeff Weaver? I dont think the Angels are in any hurry to unload Jared. Yeah, it seems that Bonderman is available for the right price, but not sure what kind of deal it would take. I'd love the Cubs to add him.

Jeff Weaver is a FA. I'm talking about Jered Weaver.

Wells value has just gone up after the Soriano signing. The Jays shouldn't be looking for middle rotation starters if Wells is going to be traded. They should be asking for blue chip players in return.
