Colletti was looking for that type of player, The guys he was looking at were Pierre, Lofton or Roberts (My personal favorite) and Colletti is getting a rep here in L.A. that he will over pay to get what he wants.

Pierre and Furcal may be able to get on base but the Dodgers need a Big Bat to drive them in.

The problem is the Dodgers feel they have to spend like everyone else to keep their name out there.

The Dodgers should have brought Kenny Lofton back for one more year and let Matt Kemp replace him either by the end of the season or by 2008, signing Pierre basically puts Kemp's career (at least with the Dodgers) on the back burner. $45 million for Pierre as just about as ridiculous as the money they gave Rafael Furcal last winter.

As you said the Dodgers have guys who can get on base but need someone to drive them in. Jeff Kent's production took a dive last year, Nomar says he will move to 3B so James Loney can play 1B which means at least a month or two that Nomar will be on the DL, Ethier fizzled by the end of august and they don't have anyone to play RF, unless they are still hoping that Jayson Werth(less) returns.

The Dodgers could have done alot more with that $45 million than sign a guy that they did not really need.

lofton has lost everything he ever had in the field, and keep in mind that his numbers came vs righties the entire season- he didn't play vs lefties. the org. projects kemp as a rightfielder- he has a cannon but not the type of range needed in center. the org. also feels that he needs another half-season in vegas. right field will be open by '08 at the latest, so his career is not even close to being on the back burner.

l.a. did overpay for pierre, but that's what the market is dictating. pierre does however stay healthy, plays a competent centerfield, is the toughest player in the show to strike out, and is a great clubhouse presence. i can think of a lot of worse ways to spend $9 mil/yr.

                1. Pierre
                2. Furcal

I think it is a good move if the Dodgers continue to spend.

Yeah, after I realized Lofton was gone, that was the only order that made sense.

This teams starting to look like the 80's cardinals. Wonder if this means the cubs go hard after Mathews?

There is a rumor floating around about a possible deal between the White Sox and the Angels that would send Freddy Garcia to the Angels for Chone Figgans and Brendan Donnelly. I think Figgans would do a good job as the CF and leadoff hitter for the ChiSox.

                        I agree

Lofton is done IMO. Last years team has proven if you got game you will play, so if Kemp shines next year he will get a spot. and like I said earlier Colletti will over pay for somebody he wants.

As you said the Dodgers have guys who can get on base but need someone to drive them in. Well at this point Nomar is staying at first and Loney is learning the outfield so he is another option.
Ethier will be prepared this year so I dont see another flame out and werth is gone. I just dont like that Repko has got lost in the shufflle.

The Dodgers could have done alot more with that $45 million than sign a guy that they did not really need.
                        Again I agree.
