    Meche to KC

In a winter meetings stunner, free agent right-hander Gil Meche is close to signing with the Royals, FOXSports.com has learned.

The deal is for 4 years and $45 million, according to MLB source. Both the Cubs and Blue Jays offered Meche deals for 4 years and $40 million, sources said.

Wow, I didn't see that one coming.

Meche should be solid, but he'll lose plenty of games with the Royals.

Kc came on pretty good at the end of the year. I think youd be surprised with this team if they get some decent pitching. The additions of Bannister and Meche will help out alot.

Im thinking so. Plus it looks like they may get Octavio Dotel to close and then miguel batista.

                ESPN says it's a 5-year deal.

In my opinion this is a good signing.

Specific financial details were not known, but the package is believed to approach $55 million to $60 million. The richest contract in club history is Mike Sweeney’s current five-year deal for $55 million, which expires after next season.

                        I think i've calmed down a little.

Where the heck did the Royals (of all teams) get this kind of money from?

Gil freaking Meche is getting 45 million...Wow. I'm not disappointed to say the least.

How sad is it that .500 to sub .500 pitchers with weak ERA's are getting 40 million.

Oh I don't agree on the dollars but JP gambled on getting Meche or Lilly at the Winter Meetings. We lost out on BOTH. This puts the Jays in a precarious situation where they're going to have to look at trades to get an inning eater because Josh Towers can't cut it as a 5th Sterter.

If Towers is the 5th Starter at the beginning of the year then the Jays have ZERO chance at the playoffs.

Wow. I can't believe they're going to give Meche 55-60 Million.
