I still can't believe the Reds traded for Hamilton.

I know Hamilton personally, and I wish him well. It really seemed like he was cleaning up, and should be on his way to the League before too long.

After I've read more about it, it might not be that bad of a gamble. The worst that can happen is he doesn't make the team in spring training and they have to send him back to the D-Ray's for $25k. If he starts playing like a 1st round draft pick then the Reds pulled off a steal.

EDIT: Apparently Reds manager, Jerry Narron, has a history with Hamilton dating back to when Josh was 15. Narron feels like if anyone can help him, he will be the one to do it. Interesting read: http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.d...PT04/612080373

After reading that, i'm glad Josh ended up in Cincy. Hopefully they take him in and he can turn his life (and career) around.

From what I've heard on the radio here, Hamilton is back to around 225 lbs (he was down to like 175 with his drug use) and reports are things are going very well. He has a live bat.

Can't wait to see how he does.

It was so cool to see him on the news the other day... I'll tell you what, playing the field while he's taking BP is one of the scariest things I've ever done.

Doesn't he have to make the MLB roster or else he goes back through waivers? I thought I read something about that, but I'm not sure.

He was definitely VERY talented coming out of high school. I still recall the debate over whether Hamilton or Beckett should go #1 overall. The entire situation reminds me a little of the NFL with Manning and Leaf.

He has to stay on the MLB roster the whole season. If the Reds send him down to the minors he has to go back to his old team. I'm not sure who had him before, but I think it was the D-Rays.

Ahhh, thanks. That's what I was looking for.

It's going to be real interesting to see how it all pans out. I think he'll really have to dominate in spring training to make the 25 man roster. Then again, I'm not sure how deep the Reds are.

Ryan Goleski went first, wow. I watched him play A ball for the Indians 3 years ago, still hit the longest home run I've ever seen, cleared a building outside of the stadium. Dude can mash.

Indians also lose Jim Ed Warden, big tall pitcher.

If the Reds wanted to send him down they could, but the D-Rays first get the option to buy him back for $25,000, if they decline then the Reds could send him to the minors.
