    Comments on Slugfest

I was interested in hearing people's basic comments on Slugfest, from those that actually played the game.

I want a real sim-like game, which I'll decide between the many available in about two months. But I'm also interested in gettin a fun, really arcadey game to just kick back and relax to and maybe play with friends and such. Just to laugh and whatever.

Do you guys feel that Slugfest fills that want or does it just come up short. Keep in mind that I am interested in gettin the new version over the one from last year. But I would like to hear comments on last year's version as well.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

It was.... ok. Graphically it was real nice, and everything from the stadiums to the players were well done.

Gameplay, though... I just don't think a Blitz type game works for baseball. The first time I punched the 3rd baseman and ran home was funny, but after that it got kinda boring to me. I need in-depth franchise modes and more substance to my baseball games, I guess. I just couldn't get into an anything-goes baseball game.

        I feel the same way.

But I just became interested in the game b/c I know a couple of people that like baseball but couldn't sit through an entire REAL game of baseball as a video game. I know that my ex-girlfriend (yes we are still friends, it can work) will love to play a baseball game with me. But I figured that a Slugfest type game will be somethin more fun for her. I know she loves baseball adn would love to play a real baseball game, but then I think about the time I have to spend to explain the rules of baseball and such. And then i'm sure I'll strike her out like every at bat b/c she wont understand the timing.

I could always throw the ball down the middle, but then that kinda ruins the idea of playing a realistic game of baseball. So i figured Slugfest could fill that extra desire.

But I'm not plannin on just buying Slugfest. I'm plannin on buying either MVP, ASB, WSB, or IP (I respect HH, but I'll pass this year. I could always get it for my PC anyways). And then later on, like in August or so, buying maybe a used copy of Slugfest 20-04 off Ebay or half.com or somethin.
