St.Louis to host 2009 All Star Game

Not a bad choice but i have to wonder how long it will be until the Diamondbacks, Marlins or Devil Rays get to host one.

D'Backs.. probably in another few years

Marlins - once they are firmly staying put or when that new stadium is completed

NL has a bunch of new ballparks that still need to host an ASG.

Has AT&T Park held one? How about PNC Park? I know there's still the GABP, Petco Park, Chase Field, and Citizens Bank Park

While in the AL, you got... no new ballparks I think.

I think Tampa Bay's venue is horrible... but it still deserves an ASG.

AT&T Park is hosting this year, and I believe I recall video games always showing PNC Park host an All Star Game; I forget if they show it in 2008 or 2009, though.

Apparently last year's ASG wasn't too memorable.

Heh, maybe that's where I saw it on video games.

Oddly enough, I don't think the 2008 ASG has been awarded yet, though I'm thinking Yankee Stadium has the inside track (final season in the House That Ruth Built).

That would be a GREAT ASG. I could just see the Yanks having a pregame ceremony with all the living Yankee greats. I may hate the organization but the history in that building will be enough to give even the most jaded sports fan chills.

I believe I speak for all the Met fans when I say..... Funk St. Louis....

By all accounts, Busch is now the stadard by which other ballparks are measured. Combine that with extremely knowledgeable and passionate fans, and it's a home run (no pun intended)... Smart move by MLB.

For those of you in cities that have recently hosted, how were the tickets sold? Was it a lottery system?

This is a no-brainer for the MLB. What a beautiful ballpark to showcase the game's best players. I wonder if anyone will hit one over the Arch in the HR Derby, lol.

Don't forget that Selig has promised an All-Star game to Kansas City and Kauffman Stadium sometime between 2010 and 2014. It might be the only non-new stadium to host an All-Star game for quite a few years.

We haven't hosted an all-star game in Cincy since 1988. I thought they were trying to get the 2008 game but obviously MLB felt that the Cardinals deserved it more. Maybe in 2010. I won't hold my breath. I don't know why they'd want to showcase this city anyway with all of its problems right now. It's a shame. I'd love for them to have it here again. It was fun going to the game the last time.
