    Yankee Stadium To Host 2008 All Star Game

    This may be the most awesome thing, ever.

    I'm seriously going to try my best to get up there with a friend of mine. Especially since it's the last year of Yankee Stadium.

    Yankee Stadium will be the site of the 2008 All-Star Game, sources in baseball said, in the last year of the ballpark.

    The new Yankee Stadium is scheduled to open in 2009, and old Yankee Stadium closed, 86 years after the ballpark was first built in 1923, and 33 years after the ballpark was remodeled on the same site in 1976. With the All-Star Game slated to be in an AL park in 2008, officials chose Yankee Stadium for the site, believing it to be an appropriate way to usher out the historic building.

    The All-Star Game has been held in Yankee Stadium three times previously, the last time in 1977.

    An announcement on the selection of Yankee Stadium is expected in the days ahead, perhaps next week, with Major League Baseball coordinating with the Mayor's office in New York.

    Next summer's All-Star Game will be played in San Francisco, and on Monday night, Commissioner Bud Selig formally announced that the 2009 All-Star Game will be played in St. Louis.

                      NOt that I know you or anything, but I think it would be great if OS would plan a New York Yankee outing in 2008 to say goodbye to it's history.

                      If you're coming down, let the New Yorkers know ahead of time so we can maybe all meet up.

                      If not, I invite all of the New Yorkers to try it.

                          It's nothing special. It's a dump. But you can feel the history when you walk in. But it really is a dump.

                                  CJ, I'm sure it's not one of the nicest places in the world to watch a game, but that doesn't matter when the place runs so deep with history.

                                  YP, I would have to talk to my brother about that. He's a huge Yankee fan and if I were to even come to NY, it would be with him.

                                              I'm with you there. I went to Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park this summer and Fenway was a lot better. But at least the bleacher creatures at Yankee made it a lot of fun. Everyone in Boston seemed to be there for the social experience, to me... not to have fun at the ballgame.

                                                      I think this is a fantastic idea... I'm down... I live in NY during the summers because thats my home. Texas is my college and future home. We should all tail-gate together a few hours before the game.
