    1st Baseman's mitts....who's best?

Any thoughts on the best company? This would be for a high school player.

Wilson. I've had my A2000 for 5 years, playing over 60 games per year in that time. I've had to re-string it once, but that just comes with the wear and tear. Probably the best mitt I've ever had.

If you want a good quality mitt, you're gonna have to spend some money. You could buy a cheaper mitt, but it won't hold its shape as long and the leather will wear much quicker.

I couldn't quite afford an A2000 (and I wasn't sure if I would only be playing 1st base) so I got an A900. Overall it has been a great glove. I did some shopping around online and can't remember exactly what I paid but I remember it was about $50 cheaper than everywhere else.

jmw was it directsports.com? They seem to have everything about 30-50 dollars cheeper on their gloves. Alright I am a catcher so cant speak first hand on 1st basemans mitts but I agree the more money the better quality, normally. I am a Pro-Preffered guy right now. I wish Rawlings would make the Primo for catchers. Anyway if you are going to be trying to use it this season dont bother. It took me forever to break the mitt in and I have heard that from many people. A buddy of mine got the 1st baseman's mitt and he said it took forever to break in, just like mine did. But anyway great glove once you break it in. I am a Rawlings guy so some bias. Anyway I have heard good things about the A2000 by Wilson but also the A2K is out but I dont know anyone who has it.

It might've been direct sports--not sure since it was a while ago.

I agree on breaking in. I've heard of 'pre-broken' mitts but have heard it's better to break it in yourself so it molds to your hand. I play in a mens league (NABA) and we only play 20 games in spring and 16 in the fall. I've had mine for 2 seasons and it still isn't all the way broken in...and that's with a lot of playing catch/practice outside of games.

I never played first base, but when I played ball in high school, I had an A2000. Just fooling around in practice, I found that their 1B mitts are pretty nice, too.

I have a Nokona first baseman mitt for baseball and a Rawlings Silverback for Softball. Both have lasted the test of time. Especially because my infield seems to like to throw balls in the dirt.

I too play in the NABA in Northern VA.

Anyways I just bought a pro-preffered a couple of years ago and it is holding up pretty nice.
