Is anyone familiar with Baseball America?

I've been browsing the Internet for baseball-related magazines (slim pickings), and Baseball America is a magazine I've heard of in the past, but never looked into.

I gather it is geared more towards prospects and younger players, but is it considered a solid magazine, that's enjoyable to read?

Does it have any appeal to a baseball fan at the Major League level, or is it strictly for those that are interested in prospects and developing players?

I have never been exposed to baseball writing at a level below MLB, and thus this magazine is intriguing to me. I'd appreciate any feedback from those that have experience with the magazine.

    Thanks!

IMO, if your a baseball fan, Baseball America is for you. It spans from the high school ranks to the Bigs. Its nice to get info about the prospects coming up not only for your favorite team, but the rest of the league also. If you enjoy fantasy baseball, the mag is a definite help, as it gives you a nice heads up on rookies.

It does cover the bigs, however, its geared towards prospects. Each issue has an MLB feature by Gammons and Crasnick. Its a little pricey, but its bi-weekly and well worth it IMO. I've been a subscriber for the last three or four years. Oh yeah, if you subscribe to the print version, you get the online content free, which is nice.

I believe if you check their site, you can sign up for a free issue to get a feel for it, or go to a book store to see if you can find one and check it out there. Hope you decide to check it out, as its the best baseball mag I've found.

Am I missing something or is this the website everybody uses to evaluate the current Minor Leagues?

As far as I know and am concerned, this is the Minor League Baseball Bible. They're pretty respected in the industry.

          Thanks for the replies.

It's encouraging that the magazine is ideal for baseball fans, as I find myself interested in sports to the extent I am able to immerse myself in them; and I really enjoy reading.

I've never really been exposed to the prosect side of baseball, but I suspect that is more a result of a lack of opportunity, instead of a lack of interest. There is a minor league baseball team that is local and I've watched a few players go from playing here to the big leagues; Ryan Howard being the most recent example.

It seems to be a fitting magazine for baseball, as baseball does have a very established minor league system, in which prospects are able to develop before being thrust into the Majors. It also must be satisfying to read about a player when he is playing minor league ball, and later see him doing well in the majors.

The subscription price is not really as issue, providing it's worthwhile. And including online access seems like a nice perk. I will certainly check out their website, and either take advantage of the trial offer, or check a local bookstore to see if they sell the magazine.
