Juan (Igor) Gonzalez might be returning to the Majors!!

Is anyone else excited about this, besides me? I've been a fan of his ever since his HR slugging days in Texas. He's had an unfortunate injury plagued career thus far (to say the least), but that was for the most part beyond his control. I'd really like to see him return for a few seasons & reach his goal of 500+ HR's. I think this guy could still produce big time, if he can just manage to stay healthy. He'd probably fit in best with the Angels as a DH/OF, hittin behind Vlad (eventually). I think he did fairly well in the Caribbean series.
Any thoughts or opinions on Juan Gone?

Unfortunately, aside from my post, this thread is not going to last without having the word "steroids" being posted here a few times, which I honestly have no concern for whatsoever.

This is nothing that I'm necessarily looking forward to or anything, but I think that it's pretty cool to potentially hear his name again on the baseball field in the near future.

But all that said, I had higher hopes to see guys like Fred McGriff or Andres Galarraga return before him, though Gonzalez still has a couple of years left in the tank. This guy was a freakin' machine in the latter nineties.

It's never really been about the money with Gonzalez (although I'm sure he's broke about now). He's one of those players that would give up a huge contract to be in a less stressful situation. Such as the difference between playing for the Rangers or Indians as opposed to the Red Sox & Yankees. He doesn't seem to like being in the spotlight for the most part.

Yeah, that's the Gonzalez I'd like to see make a comeback. But unfortunately some scouts are supposedly reporting that he's more of a singles hitter now days. I'm not buying it though, as I think they're just poking fun about the steroid issue to a certain extent. In tonight's loss to Venezuela Juan Gone happen to hit a long double off the wall.
I think the guys still got 30+ HR power, if he could just play on a consistant basis.... without an injury every 6 games.

I'd welcome him back just to watch him steal another MVP award from A-Rod.

I loved watching the Juan Gonzalez of Texas Rangers days. You'd have to be a fool not to realize he had some "help" but I admit he was fun to watch at the dish.

not about the money? he walked away from a nice offer from the Tigers, which by the way had he accpeted, would have still been with them now

Make sure you move in your left field fence before bringing him in.

If i can remember correctly, he would also call the scorer's booth to get some of his errors changed to hits..

He might of taken steroids at some point, but he's a big guy anyways at 6'3". I think most of his accomplishments are purely from his own talent & ability. Besides, he never racked up anywhere near the HR totals that some of these guys like A-Rod, Bonds, Griffey, R Howard, Sosa, etc.... have produced. Meaning he never hit 60 or 70 or even 50+ HR's in a season. All the injurys hindered him some, but still.
I don't care whether Canseco was trying to point a finger at Gonzalez. The fact is theres no real proof of steroid use, except that he has a muscular physique.... & is that really proof?

                          Woo hoo.

This sounds like the Sammy Sosa situation all over again.

Uh, not exactly. Juan's reason for not playing has been more about injurys than Sosa's. Yeah Sosa sneezed & hurt his back, but stop comparing the two of them so much. Their stories are really pretty different.
