I think you meant that it's 5 days until pitchers and Molina's report.

3 Molina catchers this year in the majors. Haha. Too bad the Reds don't have one.

Once again...I welcome the early jinxing anyone wants to do on the Mets...it worked so well last year.

Living in NJ, how is it exactly that you became a Braves fan? Are you just a frontrunner or did you actually live in GA or have a good story? And while we're on the topic, how did you become a Cowboys fan? It's amazing you are a Devils fan given the fact that you are fans of dominant teams of the past. But wait, NJ Devils were pretty dominant in the past, you just happen to live there so you're a natural fan. Riiiight. It's amazing that you aren't a Colorado Avalanche fan.

What a game that was, one of the best games I've ever watched. Rolen getting robbed on an amazing catch by Chavez (I honestly didn't think the Cardinals would do anything after that, I thought momentum turned at that point), then Molina came up huge, then it all comes down to Beltran who absolutely murders the Cards and he K's looking, what a game!

I can't wait for baseball to get here again, Mets open the season in STL, should be an interesting series, our rotation has a lot of question marks this year. World Series ring presentation for the 2nd game of the series , I'll be there!

I will say the Braves underachieved in a big way last year. They had the second best offense in the NL in runs scored and led in HR's. Scoring/lineup was not an issue and I don't think it will be this year. It will be interesting to see how the new guys on the right side of the IF do.

I don't know why anyone thinks the rotation is weak. I would take Smoltz, Hudson, James, Hampton, and Davies over any other team in the NL East. Andruw Jones has 92 HR's and 257 RBI's over the last two years. I wouldn't want to face him with the game on the line (nor would I want to face Francouer or McCann or CJ).

Now, here is why I say they underachieved. Last year the Braves pythagorean record was 85-77 (the Mets was 92-70). They also had by far the worst record in the Majors in 1-run games (19-33). Now, a lot of that had to do with the bullpen woes, but Rob Neyer and Bill James have shown that records in 1 run games are largely dependent on luck (if you see a team have a great year that wasn't expected, often if you look at the 1 run game record it's off the charts). I believe the bullpen will be much better this year, as the young guys improved in the 2nd half and they have added Gonzalez and Soriano, both significant upgrades. I also expect for the luck to even out and the 1 run games record to return to normal. Finally, the Braves suffered through a horrendous June in which they went 6-21. The rest of the year they went 73-62. Bottom line, they were a better team than a 79-83 record.

I say all this, not to disrepect the Mets, but to point out that in all likelyhood the Braves will be much better this year than last. The Mets are the NL East champs and I give them their props for a great year last year. I am really looking forward to the race in the NL East, and hopefully at the end of the year the Braves have reclaimed the title.

                  Good points Sportsforever.
Yes the bullpen is definitely improved over last year for the Braves. While I'd take Smoltz in a heartbeat...the rest of the rotation is as much of a question mark as the Mets' IMO. Hudson has been lackluster and I'm being kind. Hampton? who knows what's going to happen with him. He could be in the Cy Young running or he could go 3-12. As for James and Davies...plug in Maine and Perez(maybe a stretch..but that guy is nasty if he can reign himself in) and really, how different is the Met staff from the Braves. Glavine had a very nice season....Hernandez can be good/very good or off....toss a coin for 3,4 and 5 and it's a wash.
I know you guys like Wickman....if only because your closer situation was nothing less than scary...but as with the Phillies Tom Gordon...he doesn't make me think it could ever be an automatic 1,2,3 ninth. At least with Wagner, it will 8 times out of 10 be a dominant performance. Yes he had those couple of hiccups and Phillies fans will say he's a heart attack, but I had no qualms of him coming in in the playoffs.
Of course this is all just point of view and who the heck knows what will happen!
The best point you make is the 1 run game point and with your addition of both Gonzalez and Soriano you will take some of those games for sure.

Like I stated earlier....the NL East will be tight this year and I won't be as comfortable as last year watching the season progress, I'm afraid.

You're right...that was an amazing game..and when Chavez did come down with that ball, I would have almost bet the house that it was our road to the Series.

                        Hmmm....oh yeah...I remember now...GAME 1!!!!

Listen, I had to(and obviously still have to) hear crap from Braves fans for the last decade. We crush the East and I have to remain silent?
Please, oh so knowledgeable Kredit....tell me when I'm allowed to gloat a little?....especially since even last July, you and every other baseball fan had the Met collapsing and the Braves still taking the division.

I'm the first guy to say it. You can't predict anything with 100% assurdness(read the threads about the Tigers/Cards in relation to the NL vs. AL record last year), but if all you Brave fans are going to come up with are "you signed Chan Ho Park"....go back to the store and bring something else to the plate.....'cause that one is WEAK.

Edit....sorry I see it was a Marlin fan(same thing really, cause if it aint' New York...it might as well be Newark!) that originally started this....but the Choppers jumped right in....so...

Dog, chill out. The comment was made in good fun, no need to get defensive, lol. The Mets did indeed roll over the entire National League last season, and rightly deserved to be NL East champs. I can't wait until baseball season starts, and hopefully the Braves can hold up their end of the deal when it comes to this inter-division rivalry.
