Re: Zito to change delivery?
yeah the pitching coach isn't too happy about it. I say if he stays healthy, keeps the curve, and adds velocity without losing what makes him, him, then I think the Giants should be all for it.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Re: Zito to change delivery?
This has the makings of a disaster. I can understand a slight alteration but from skimming through the article it seems like Zito is going from one style to another one altogether. I can't think of the last big name pitcher who did that without either getting hurt or losing their success completely.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Zito to change delivery?
From my shallow understanding of what his delivery looks like, it sounds very similar to what Tom House teaches. Wouldn't be surprised if Zito spent some time with him this offseason. I've read that he starts in a crouch and his stride foot is drastically closer to the hitter by the time he releases the ball. The latter part is not a bad thing, and using your legs more will only do good things for your arm. That said... I'm curious.Comment

But, I'd worry that Zito hasn't had enough time to master the new mechanics. If he's off even a bit then over time he'd add more stress to his arm and body than he planned to."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
