Molina going back on his deal with Wainwright?

    Pretty slimeball move IMO.

They had a deal and now he's going back on it.

    Here's some quotes from Molina

"He was trying to get that ball from me, I know," Molina said Monday at Roger Dean Stadium, two days before Cardinals pitchers and catchers report for workouts. "He deserves it. He does. But that's the one thing I have from a long season. I hit .216. It was a tough year. I didn't earn much else, but I have that ball.

This offseason, Wainwright confirmed the ball's location when he recalled the conversation he had with Molina during the celebration. He said he approached Molina, who led all players with 19 hits in the playoffs, and the catcher said he would give Wainwright the ball when the team got its championship rings.

"He told me, 'You deserve it, you deserve it,'" Wainwright said. "But he told me to wait. He was there with his brother (Giants catcher Bengie Molina), and it's hard to argue with two of them."

Molina said Monday he remembers talking to Wainwright.

    He remembers the deal.

Will he follow through? "I don't think so," he said.

Maybe I'm blowing this out of proportion, but Molina comes off as a big jerk in this article. So just because you sucked that year means you get to keep the ball after you told someone else you'd give it to them....ok.

    What do you guys think?

So, he says he remembers the talk, remembers making the deal, and likely isn't going to follow through on it? Total jerk move.

Is Paul Konerko the only classy person when it comes to giving a World Series ball away? Yeesh.

Molina looked like an *** in the batter's box, and now he sounds like one.

First of all, it's just a ball, there shouldn't be a big deal about it. Sure, there is going to be a value to it because it was the WS ball, but in the end its just a ball.

The same sorta crap went down with Doug M. and the Bo'Sox a couple of years back when Doug M. had the ball and didn't want to give it up. The way I see it, that ring is all you need to remember the championship.

I'd like to add that even though I'm a Cardinal fan, I do not like Molina. He is pretty good behind the plate, but with the stick he is pretty awful. But, if it wasnt for his homerun against the Mets, the Cards wouldnt have advanced.

Molina's only 24 though so he has some time to improve with the bat. I think he'll end up being a really good all around catcher.

Yeah but Doug M. didn't promise anyone he'd give it back like Molina did with Wainwright.

Not a great way to start a title defense.

                      Agree 100%

Wainwright deserves the ball, he struck out Inge to clinch the world series, on top of it Molina agreed to it.

Also when you consider Molina wound up getting his ball back from his HR he hit against the Mets in Game 7 of the NLCS that sent the Cards to the World Series he should be thrilled to have that and let Wainwright have this one anyway being as Wainwright got the K, that'd be like giving Wainwright Yadi's HR ball due to Wainwright struck out Beltran to seal that game.

That said I'm a big fan of Yadi's so its not like I'll start disliking him due to this but Wainwright absolutely 100% deserves that ball and it is a dick move on Yadi's part not to give it to him.

Who cares. It's just a stupid ball from a terrible world series. They should just give the thing to whoever taught the Tigers' pitching staff how to field. Maybe let Zumaya throw it into the stands.
