Nice job on the Phillies. Just a few comments.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them move Bell down to the 8th position. The 8th position is pretty valuable in the NL. Sets up the lineup for the next inning many times. Byrd is going to strike out a few times, which you don't want in that position. Maybe flip flop those two.

Possibly switch Abreu and Thome around. You want your best pure hitter in the #3 spot. Hopefully this year Abreu will realize that he's not a HR hitter and just go back to his .330 45 doubles per year ways. Incredible at hitting towards all fields if he wants to. Thome will strike out too much for that spot.

Thanks for the input. I can see your point on both moves, but just to explain my reason on the each. I thought they would bat Byrd in the 8th spot to keep the pressure off of him in the early going. As far as the 3-4-5 hitters go, I'm not sure Thome would get the same protection batting 5th as he would having Burrell and Abreu following him. Also, if Abreu was hitting 3rd he might less incline to use his speed on the bases because he wouldn't want to take the bat out of Burrell and Thome's hands.

Also, I don't know if I want to start going back and changing the previous posts because I don't think you can edit them after a certain period. I guess people will just have to read through to see the different comments.

True. I didn't think about protection issues. 3-4-5 is going to be one of the best in the majors (any others???). I see your point about pressure. There might be more pressure in the 8th hole than the 7th hole, but that is up to speculation. Great job on the post. Keep the idea's coming.

Ron Coomer signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers, but I can't see him making the team unless the Dodgers only carry 6 relievers.

Ricky Bottalico signed a minor league deal with the Diamondbacks. He'll have to beat out Mike Jackson and Mike Koplove to make the team. Don't see that happening.

Damon Buford signed a minor league deal with Expos. Played last year in the minors and should probably do the same again this year.
