      Yeah, but at the most you only have 4 players on the court at one time that are actively participating for the vast majority of the game.

          Yeah Virtual Tennis did have partial 3D crowds, but the playing area in tennis is also so much smaller, and so are the stadiums. You can see the whole court at all times, which means it taxes the hardware way less. And with so fewer people in the crowd, they can make parts in 3D and "hide" the rest much easier than other sports games because you wouldn't see as many spectators in any given shot than you would for baseball or football. The crowd did look really good in that game, though.
