    Wang lands on DL

Suprised this hasn't been posted yet, sorry if it has been.

With the Yanks best, yet IMO most overrated pitcher (bash me all you want, I just think it was a fluke season), on the DL for at least the first month, whose stepping into that spot?

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring...ory?id=2810733

---Wang was hurt while sprinting Friday.

"I feel one pop, pull," he said. "Very sad. I hope it gets better."---

    Haha, "Very sad"

I tried but any short sentance including Wang is tough to make serious-sounding. Besides, it's not like he threw a complete-game or anything. Then it'd be "Wang goes the distance"

Carl Pavano may get the nod on opening day...wow.

Barring a trade the Yankees will open the season with a starting rotation of:

        Mike Mussina
        Andy Pettitte
        Carl Pavano
        Kei Igawa
        Jeff Karstens

This looks like a Yankee starting rotation from the early 90's-two decent veterans and three big question marks.

But Wang lands on DL is pretty funny nonetheless.

Don't worry it's not that big of a deal. Not on Opening Day.

Opening Day vs the Devil Rays...

We could start Jason Giambi and still win. No biggie.

I don't see how it's a question of who should start. Mussina is coming off a decent year and he has seniority in that rotation. I'm surprised he wasn't given the start to begin with.

The Yankees offense is so good they can send .500 pitchers out there everyday and still win 90-100 games this year. Losing Wang for a month won't slow them down.

All true, but Moose isn't lined up to start opening day. He would have to throw on short rest this week to get him ready. Torre said he really doesn't want to mess with him and his schedule. Mussina is a delicate, creature of habit, human being.

Hopefully this is an omen that last year was a fluke for the Wang man (sorry couldn't help it!)

BTW I've seen Karstens pitch and that guy has a huge upside IMO. Guidry even compared him to Maddux! He'll have his ups and downs but if he doesn't get fazed by the bright lights of NY then he's going to be a valuable pitcher in the years to come.

                        lol

Karstens has no upside whatsoever. And this coming from a huge Yankee fan

Well I went by what I saw and what the announcers on YES were saying. So it's not the most evenhanded analysis and he DID look good from what little I saw.

I'll take your word for it.

pettitte was horrible for stretches last year, at least the yankees bats will win some games for him.
