    Re: Prior sent to AAA

Sad to see a guy who had a lot of promise go down the tubes like this. It's interesting someone mentioned juicing. I haven't watched enough Cubs games in the past to notice but that could possibly be true. As for Wood aren't most of his problems arm related and not indicative of roid usage?

If everything goes totally sour on Prior maybe he should take up the knuckleball. After all it's made some careers last longer then normal.

      Re: Prior sent to AAA

Did the Cubs destroy Wood and Prior by rushing them, or were they flashes in the pan? I guess that is the perverbial chicken and the egg question.

I remember on Jim Rome's FSN show when Wood and Ben Grieve were ROTY's, there was an intense debate over who the better franchise player was. Funny now looking at how their careers turned out.

I assume we will get 13 - 16 wins out of Lilly and I really think Wade is going to bounce back and have a nice year. Dont get me wrong, I understand it would be a better staff with a truly healthy Prior and Wood, but relying on those guys as a 1 and 2 or gone thank God.
I agree with your statement about Hill. He'll strike out a ton of guys, seems to have his control back, and should really suprise this year.

As for Prior, i'm still confident he'll return sometime around May, and he could be a real spark for the team. I think he'll get his control back, as he was always a big control guy in college and at the beginning of his career. Its just unfortunate things have gone this way. When healthy, both physically and mentally, he's a hell of a pitcher.

Not that it's any surprise, but Prior might be hurt again. From Rotoworld

"Mark Prior had to leave his extended spring start after two innings Thursday because of shoulder soreness and is scheduled to see Dr. Lewis Yocum.

It figures. Prior seemed to making progress during the second half of the spring, but it was clear he wasn't completely right after the Cubs decided not to send him to Triple-A to begin the year. It might already be time to write him off for 2007."

I guess we can now officially put Prior on the long list of flameout pitchers. His name will be etched alongside the likes of Mark Fydrch (sp)

                  UNLESS

He learns the knuckleball. I believe Tim Wakefield was a harder throwing pitcher but switched to the knuckler to extend his career and he's done well for himself.

Yeah he's been done for about two years I will be glad when the kids contract runs and he gets out of Chicago.

                    Oh what could have been.

He was a position player who couldn't cut it at the major league level. One of his coaches noticed his knuckler when he was messing around during warm-ups one day and they gave him a shot as a pitcher after that.

Ah ic, similar to Dave Stieb who was originally an OF.

I remember that, and the sad things was I was praying that they didn't do it. That was back when I honestly believed that he could come back from this. But after seeing him still being a walking injury and getting shelled everytime he comes back to pitch I have officially given up on Prior.
