Re: Josh Hamilton's 1st hit a homer
Yeah, I got to watch it on the Reds tv broadcast. Great to see. It's hard not to root for th guy. He got a standing ovation from the Cincinnati crowd when he pinch hit on Opening Day last week. From seeing/hearing some of the interviews with Reds broadcasters and local sports personalities, it seems like he has the right frame of mind about everything. Everyone on that team is looking out for him, especially Jerry Narron, which really is the biggest reason why the Reds took a chance on him. Narron knows Hamilton's family or something along those lines. I can't remember the exact relationship they have.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Congrats to him. This could turn out to be the feel good story of the year in baseball, what with bonds and sosa chasing their respective milestones.
I'll be at the game on the 21st of this month and hope to see him playing. Should be fun.Comment

Re: Josh Hamilton's 1st hit a homer
I really don't understand what the big deal is with this story. I don't see how this is a feel good story. The guy was an incredible talent and he pissed away the first five years of his career away on drugs (crack). Nobody forced a crackpipe in his mouth and told him "Smoke this!!!" It's not like he was hit by a drunk driver and injured to the point where the doctors said he might never walk again and now he's coming back from paralysis to play in the majors. That would be a true feel good story. In this case, he just stopped doing drugs that he got addicted to on his own. I understand he's been through hell but it was all self-inflicted.Comment

Everyone calls sports talk and says how they wish Josh the best and hope he stays clean. While everyone also calls and says the Bengals should cut Chris Henry and he should be looked up for the rest of his life. Some have even said it is all about race, I dont know I think the difference is Josh has not been arrested and people are just getting tired of hearing about Henry getting arrested every other week.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: Josh Hamilton's 1st hit a homer
Could it also be that Hamilton has in some way showed remorse and has attempted to get help with his situation? I think the biggest difference is that Hamilton is fighting his problem and fans view him as an underdog whereas Henry hasn't (at least to my knowledge) done anything to remedy his situation."You got it man. I've followed his story since he was drafted, the ups and the downs, and he's always seemed like a good kid, he's just got his demons like everyone else. And he's trying to fight them.
To me though, he seems a lot more remorseful than Henry, or even Pacman Jones, IMO. I dont know the guys, so i'm not trying to judge, but when your in the public light like these guys are, its just so easy to do, even if it is wrong.Comment

Re: Josh Hamilton's 1st hit a homer
He is a good story and people who rip him don't know all the facts about what happened to him. He wasn't some guy who was a druggie his whole life and hung out with the wrong crowd by choice. He was a great prospect well on his way to the majors until he was in a car accident. In the hospital he got addicted to pain medication which led him down the path to more drugs and getting kicked out of the league a few years. Before that he was about as clean a kid as could be , very religious, never had any problems. He didn't choose to be addicted to pain medicine or crack, it happened. It's something he couldn't control and an addiction is very hard to break. Unlike other athletes who continue to have problems, he forced himself to get help once he saw his life going down the tube. That's what separates him from other idiots like Chris Henry. It's harder for me to root for the guy since he was supposed to be the franchise player for the Rays and it's just another kick in the gut for Rays fans to see him do well for another team (though with our OF I can't complain..just would have liked to see him do well in a Rays uni). But he is a good story and it's nice to see the guy turn his life around and be successful. Maybe Red fans can confirm this, but are his wife and kid still traveling with him on road trips so he doesn't have a re-lapse?MLB: Rays

NFL: 49ers
NHL: Lightning and DucksComment

His homer would've been complete had the light towers exploded and shower the field with sparks after Hamilton's homer.Comment
