    Gagne is back

congrats to Gagne. He had his first American league save tonight in his first appearance of the year.

faced 3 batters. first batter got a base hit. but Gagne struck out Ichiro next on 3 mid 90s fastballs, and then got former teammate Beltre to ground into double play.

What's the over under on innings pitched before he's back on the shelf?

I have him and Otsuka on my fantasy team. So I'm all good when his elbow explodes.

I hope he can stay healthy. He's one of my favorite closers.

He looked a little shaky at first, but settled in quick and got comfortable. His appearance seems different -- did he change his hair color?

I hope not...this past offseason I took a chance and traded Jason Marquis (coming off a bad year) for Gagne straight up in my Dynasty League. I am hoping Gagne bounces back and has a great year for Texas so I can trade him for some draft picks or good young studs this offseason.

Gagne forcing Beltre to hit into a double play. Those are 9 words that should never go together for Dodger fans.

Gagne blew out his arm, and Beltre sucks. Dodger fans should be happy.

Riiiggghhhhttttt. He's one of the best fielding 3rd baseman in the AL when you consider his range. Chavez dreams of fielding the bunt down the line as well as Beltre.

In the last 4 months of last season he was one of the top hitting 3rd baseman in the AL.

And his numbers don't show it yet, but he's been hitting the ball extremely hard this season. Even his double play to end last night's game was hit very hard, just right at Blalock. He's seeing the ball much, much better.

Are you really going to try to say Beltre is a better fielding and better overall 3rd baseman than Eric Chavez?

Gagne won a Cy Young, had 100000 consecutive saves, and Beltre nearly won the MVP two seasons ago. As a fan who saw every single one of their games, I saw both in the pinnacle of their careers. McCourt wasn't willing to dish out the money to Beltre unfortunately, as I think he would have been better served playing here rather than @ Seattle (unfavorable dimensions to hitters).

For Beltre, he peaked during his contract year in '04 and it doesn't help playing in a pitcher's park.

While personally I'd take Chavez it's very close. They both play gold glove defense, and Beltre is a little younger.

                              Chavez in 2006: 22 hrs , 72 rbis , .241 avg , .786 ops

                              Beltre in 2006: 25 hrs , 89 rbis , .268 avg , .793 ops

                              And Beltre plays in Safeco.
