Re: Josh Hancock: Booze, Drugs and a Video
I am furious about this for some reason...
I do not feel sorry for Josh Hancock, he had it coming. I feel bad for his family, friends, and teamates.
Less than 3 days before this fatal accident Hancock escaped death by just inches in another alcohol related driving accident he was involved in when his car rolled through an intersetion at 5:30 AM
Somehow, he was NOT issued a citation by the police officer on the scene, though Hancock was leaving a handful of bars that stay open until 5:00.
When Hancock showed up late at the park on Thursday, he was "too hungover" to pitch.
Un-f'ing-believable.
Somehow the word about this doesn't get out. Hancock gets away with driving drunk and is almost killed like its nothing.
Less than 3 days later, he kills himself while driving drunk at 4 AM and was ridiculously lucky that he didn't take out several others with him.
Tony LaRussa is a son of a bitch also. The Cardinals tried to cover this up for the most part, refusing to talk about alochol. People have a right to know that Hancock killed himself in a selfish act that took a miracle for others not to be badly hurt as well.
Baseball should be ashamed. The Cardinals should be ashamed.Comment

As for the hangover part, again, hearsay. I am not saying that alcohol didn't have anything to do with this accident, I am just saying that you need to wait until the toxicology reports come out before you get so excited.Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!Comment

Re: Josh Hancock: Booze, Drugs and a Video
Phil Sheridan of the Philly Inquirer writes...
""Just another inch or so and he could have died two days earlier, because that tractor-trailer was traveling about 45 to 50 m.p.h.," the police chief of Sauget, Ill., Patrick Delaney, told the Post-Dispatch.
The Cardinals had a day game Thursday. Hancock was late for it. Teammates, remembering all too well the sudden death of pitcher Darryl Kile in 2002, nervously called Hancock a number of times. When he showed up, team sources told the Post-Dispatch, he was too hung over to pitch. "
"Toxicology reports from the night of Hancock's fatal accident are not yet ready. But the newspaper's account of the hours preceding the crash, citing eyewitness accounts, reads like any typical night out after a major-league game. The pitcher had been seen drinking in one bar-restaurant - the manager felt compelled to ask if he wanted a cab, which tells you something - and left for another. He was on his way to meet teammates at a third when the SUV crashed into the back of a 26,000-pound tow truck. "
guy was drunk as hell for the 2nd time in 3 nights and driving, again
nobody just happens to be out at 5 AM and get into two accidents that are their fault after they've been see at bars in 3 nightsComment

@ mike01
I agree with you 100% This sad story is true....the Jack Daniels found in the car along with marajuana, is also true. Some don't want to believe it, but it is what it is. As for coverup, I don't know how this story is being played out where you live, but here in NYC (we have TWO sportstalk stations), it's not being discussed. And so far on the Baseball This Morning program (XM channel 175), I haven't heard anythng yet. If I missed it, my bad, but I've heard nothing.

Re: Josh Hancock: Booze, Drugs and a Video
Relax. You are taking alot of hearsay as fact. At the original accident, police at the scene have stated that they had no reason to suspect alcohol was a factor. He was in a rough area, but even bar/club owners say that he wasn't in their place that night. He even stated to a cop that he hates day games after night games because he can't sleep, so he drives around to wear himself down. Hell, I did that when I was in baseball simply because I was so wired I wanted to do anything but sit in a room.
As for the hangover part, again, hearsay. I am not saying that alcohol didn't have anything to do with this accident, I am just saying that you need to wait until the toxicology reports come out before you get so excited.
You are indenial the guy had a huge drinking problem and killed himself while driving drunk. It will all come out soon, 10 different people at the bar he was drinking at have come out and said he drank there all night.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: Josh Hancock: Booze, Drugs and a Video
I haven't been following the story as close as some, so if there was Jack found in the car that is pretty damning evidence that alcohol was a factor. All I am saying is wait until the evidence is out (ie. toxicology report) before we throw a dead person under the bus.Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!Comment

Re: Josh Hancock killed in crash this morning...
There is only one reason to be in Sauget, IL after midnight and that is to drink. Every bar in St. Louis closes between 1:00 and 3:00 am. Sauget is right across the bridge and it is home to a couple strip clubs and one regular night club that are all open until 6am.
I don't know if Josh was impaired when he died, but we'll all find out soon enough. If he was, I'm glad no one else was hurt. I still feel for the team and his family as they will, if they haven't already, start questioning whether there was something they could have done to stop this.Comment

Re: Josh Hancock killed in crash this morning...
not saying he did, not saying he didn't but the guy he was talking to at the bar not so called "eye witnesses" Dave Campbell said pretty much most if not all of what the "witnesses" said wasn't true and that him and Hancock were talking baseball.
Take it for what it's worth... but I'd rather be optimistic and believe the guy Hancock was actually talking to then a couple that believed they saw something and thus became "eye witnesses".http://flotn.blogspot.com

Re: Josh Hancock killed in crash this morning...
So much misinformation in this thread. Most "facts" stated in this thread are incorrect or speculative. The real truth will come out in the next few days. Is anyone besides JH responsible for his actions? I don't think so, he is an adult who makes his own decisions. If you want to place blame on anyone else you could go on forever and blame everyone in baseball and the US. Until you have the facts, stop perpetuating rumors.
Just so you all know it has been unconfirmed whether or not he was legally drunk, it has been unconfirmed that pot was found in his car, it has been unconfirmed whether he was too hung-over to pitch on Thursday, it has been confirmed that alcohol was NOT found at the scene of the accident.
It's sad that some of you will spread rumors started on other sites. The truth will come out. I admit the circumstantial evidence looks pretty damning and I will not be surprised if some of these rumors are true but leave the damnation to those with the facts."My favorite word in English is 'youneverknow.'" - Joaquin AndujarComment
