NO the reality is it is apart of the sport. A lot of guys took something and now baseball is doing something about it. If they would have been tougher on it back then none of this stuff would be happening. Yes Bonds took roids, but I bet you a lot of guys took something. Baseball is to blame if you can't see that, oh well. Bonds is to blame too and the other guys are too, but to think that baseball allow this is a sad!! All they cared about was the money it made them, I can't blame them.

Re: Report: Ortiz not sure if he took steroids
If this situation happened to Bonds, we'd have 8 pages worth of flames in this thread already. That's all I'm saying. If someone "doesn't know" what he puts in his body, he's a liar. That simple. No millionaire who makes a living off his body "doesn't know" what he puts in it. Ortiz knows every single thing he puts in his body, just like every other accused roider. Bonds is a liar, and so is Ortiz. I'm not defending Bonds, I'm just saying don't single him out and make every player on the Red Sox or Yankees to look like a saint.Comment

He's talking about WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER. You know, when he was just a kid in the Dominican. That is what the issue is about - it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT ORTIZ IS DOING RIGHT NOW.
Maybe that is a little clearer.Comment

Re: Report: Ortiz not sure if he took steroids
I didn't read the article, but I get the idea.
Generally, I don't buy the "I don't know if I took steroids or not" argument. Why are these players taking drugs and/or supplements from shady establishments in Central America or anywhere else in the world? Why are they putting themselves in situations where there is any doubt about what's going into their body? Their bodies are a large part of what makes them able to have the lucrative and enjoyable jobs they do, and I'm supposed to believe that they aren't even able to keep track of what they are putting into them?
It seems like they are trying to justify ignorance to me, and at any job I've had experience with, ignorance was not a valid excuse for anything detrimental to one's performance or ability to abide to clearly set rules and standards.
Furthermore, when someone took steroids is only relevent to the window in which they are deemed illegal. If MLB dictates that a current drug test is the means for determining whether someone is using steroids, then it doesn't matter if a player took them when they where fifteen. If they aren't in your system now, then by the definition set by the governing body, they didn't take steroids. Thus, there is no point discussing a situation in which an athlete might have accidentally taken them once when they where twelve, and thought they were really enjoying a pixie stickLast edited by Jimplication; 05-09-2007, 09:59 PM.Enjoy football? I agree with the "no millionare who makes a living off his body doesn't know what he puts in it," but Ortiz is talking about when he was younger and living in the Domincan Republic, not when he's a millionare. Big difference than Bonds using them when he's in his 30's, a millionare, and working with top trainers and all the resources around him.
And it has nothing to do with being a Red Sox player or Yankees player,
it has to do with Bonds having tons of evidence and links to steroids, and Ortiz not having any.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Report: Ortiz not sure if he took steroids
So...you'll crucify Bonds when it (unknowingly mind you) did not even go against the league's bylaws until after the fact and continue to rail him about him still taking roids (which he has never tested positive for) but we'll give Big Papi a break. Why? Because he is softer and laughs in his interviews?
Please.
You want to jack up Bonds for doing it, you better be willing to jack up any athlete that might have used it. He took them when he was younger? Well, maybe if he hadn't taken them then...he'd still be over there and would have never stood out as a baseball player. Ergo, he took the spot of someone who wasn't.
You want to jack someone around, there is no gray area.
Me? I could give a damn less what an athlete puts in his body. His choice. We're talking about a sport that celebrates all sorts of cheating. Gaylord Perry? He's in the hall of fame and actively screwed with the baseball to be a better pitcher. Everyone laughs about that one.
So please, there's no point in getting on your high horse about steroids as if it is damaging the integrity of the game. Baseball didn't have integrity to begin with.Free LSUFan2004 and GoDevilsASU!

Re: Report: Ortiz not sure if he took steroids
And again...I do not care if he has done it. Literally. Do not care. I will celebrate when he breaks the record.
Others want to double standard it because they do not like certain players. I do not care. If popping a pill or taking an injection gets you five more miles on a pitch, great. Hey, whatever is going to put bread on the table. And it's not just bread. Give me the biggest house you can too.
Again...this whole "OMG IT HAS TO BE CLEAN" stuff is crap. People cheat in all walks of life to get ahead and make more money or look better. Our government cheats local crime statistics to make some precincts look better than others. And there's more.
And until testing became mandatory, it was not against MLB's bylaws. It wasn't breaking the rules of the league. Sure, try and nail me with "BUT IT'S AGAINST THE LAW!" Know what else is? Driving home from the bar drunk. We all do it.
And yeah, they are the same thing. Don't break it down to increments and try to make it seem like Barry Bonds, or any other baseball player...is lower than you because the might or might not have shot steroids and broken the law. Because you don't go gray area. Go all the way or no way. Bottom line. Barry Bonds isn't committing murder. He's just a sour interview.
To interviewers who are usually *******s to begin with and will throw you under the bus and try to make themselves the story.
Again, if Ortiz took roids when he was younger, you should be just as pissed because he took the spot of some clean Dominacian (sp?) kid. And if you don't, but go out of your way to rail Bonds...you're a damned hypocrite.
What...is it only cheating when the guy doesn't give an interview and thinks he's better than you?Free LSUFan2004 and GoDevilsASU!
