The mighty AL East is the worst division in baseball....

I was just browsing around the standings and statistic. The AL East is the only division in baseball that doesn't have multiple teams over .500.

    Quite surprising.

EDIT: Title was suppose to say mighty, not might. Oh well.

Eh, Boston looks to be a very good team this year. The other teams have been underachieving badly but remember it's only mid May if it's like that by July then you have an argument.

Flawed analysis. The AL East is 53-55 against non-AL East teams. If one team within the division is devouring all the wins when they play amongst each other, you'll get that inaccurate picture.

      Non-division games:
      AL East: 53-55
      AL Central: 56-50
      AL West: 46-50
      NL East: 44-39
      NL Central: 34-45
      NL West: 42-36

AL East doesn't even come close to the NL Central.

that is also a flawed analysis as the AL and NL have not played yet, so there are no comparisons between teams in either league

Well, since the contention is that it's the worst division in all of baseball at the present time, we have to go by the information currently available.

Simply saying there aren't two teams above .500 is clearly a flawed analysis... if the Yankees had beaten the Red Sox on two of their close losses, for example, that scenario would no longer be true, yet it says nothing about how these teams, in aggregate, stack up with other divisions.

Actually, my above numbers are apparently bad. I could have sworn I added each up twice before posting from ESPN's site... maybe I caught them in the midst of an update.

At the time of this writing, the AL East actually has a .500 record against both the AL Central and the AL West. How can one make the case that it's the worst in all of baseball if the case can't be made for worst in the American League alone?

He was probably being sarcastic. We all know the NL Central is much worse.

division might be the worst right now but the red sox are the best team. they lead the majors in runs scored and runs allowed. they have a great rotation, a good bullpen, and their lineup is pretty good and they have still have the best 3-4 combo in the majors. and the yankees are going to be in wild card race, they always finish strong.

The only thing that surprises me is that Tampa Bay, Baltimore, and Toronto had a chance to jump on the advantage of the Yankees playing poorly, and instead they just stayed pretty stagnant. It's like....is the spirit so far out of these teams that they don't even bother?

The Yanks are only 2 games out of second place -- this is their ONE CHANCE IN LIKE A DECADE to finally do something, and they aren't doing anything! COME ON, MAN! LET'S SEE SOME COMPETITION!!

Well, Toronto keeps getting hurt, and Baltimore was never a contender. Of course, I don't have to explain Tampa Bay.
