Rickey Henderson to possibly return with the A's

Rickey wants to retire a Major Leaguer and i don't see this as a bad move for the A's if they decide to do it. Let Rickey play a few games in september so he can finally walk away from the game and retire.

He's not going to actually play if they do this. It'll be a one day thing, and that will be it. Personally, I'd love to see it. I wish they would've done this years ago though.

You sure? I skimmed the article quickly, but it sounded like he was planning on playing a game. rsox mentioned that in the first post and that's where I initially got the idea that he might.

I don't doubt he could play as a defensive replacement or maybe even as a pinch runner.

I'd love to see this. Maybe he plays and they retire his number all in the same day. The Reds did something similar with Johnny Bench back in 1983, I think. I was at the game sitting two rows behind home. He hit a HR against the Astros, if I remember right.

HE is planning on playing a game. Billy Beane is planning on him putting on a uniform, probably having a nice pregame ceremony, and that being the end of it. At least that's the impression I got after this excerpt:

According to the Chronicle's report, the A's would consider the one-day scenario as long as the roster at that time can accommodate such a move and if details are settled with Henderson in advance.

"We're not going to infringe on the integrity of the roster or of the season," Beane said, according to the newspaper.

Rickey Henderson....He'll die with a baseball uniform on.

I do hope he gets to play one full game tho. It'd be nice to see him give it a whirl one last time.

You KNOW he'd try to steal 2nd if he got on base, whether he had the signal or not. I actually think that might be what Billy Beane is afraid of.

At 48 years old Rickey is still probably faster than most of the players in the league. C'mon, who wouldn't want to see Rickey steal one more base?.

lol loved Rickey when I was a kid growing up. He was my favorite player.
