I guess saying that Baseball should apoligize to the fans for the use of performance enhancers and saying he was wrong for using the "stuff" in hindsight may not have been the best thing for Giambi to do.

Re: Yankees may try to void Giambi's contract
I don't think it would be a terrible move because he has a huge contract and he's been breaking down, but at the same time I don't see how they are going to find someone during the season to replace his production, so I'd be surprised if they did it, at least in the middle of the year.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConn -
Re: Yankees may try to void Giambi's contract
After the season I could see the Yankees doing this because he had 1 year left and looks to be declining and has had a couple of injuries. I don't see how they could do this during the season though. The bench already had no depth and 2 of the 4 guys on it can't hit. If they got rid of Giambi, Phelps or Cabrera would be playing almost every day and neither of them are good enough to be.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Yankees may try to void Giambi's contract
If they were to void his contract I'd see it as a sign of one of two things:
1.) with the Yankees 11 games out, they're essentially throwing away the rest of the season, or
2.) the more likely scenario is they have a deal worked out for a first baseman (e.g. - Todd Helton)
I suppose it's possible they could void the deal and then re-sign him to a one year deal. Or try to come to a compromise where the remaining year(s) is voided from his contract and he becomes a free agent at the end of this year. At any rate, I think they'll have a hard time pulling this off and I expect Giambi will finish out the rest of that contract.Comment

Re: Yankees may try to void Giambi's contract
They'll never get away with it without paying him off. He's under contract. Sure they could prove he took steriods, which is grounds for a void (I assume). However, he could sue them for the contract and then some if there's anyone in the organization that knew about it. And I have a feeling at least one person had to know.Comment

I think it's more likely Torre gets canned in the middle of the season rather then Giambi getting his contract voided in the middle of the year.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Yankees may try to void Giambi's contract
Giambi getting his contract voided is a load of crap.
Even the Yankees couldn't be stupid enough to spend the finances to explore this possibility when Giambi's contract is at it's end.
edit:
Ugh, the Daily News reported this? Please pay no mind to this story."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

so if a player denies it, he's call an *** and people hate him..but he can still break records. If he admits he used steroids and shows remorse, his livelihood is threatened and a team can void a contract.
great going MLB.Comment

Yah, I really don't think there's any truth to this story. Speculative journalism IMO.Comment
