Question about a pitcher who can throw with both hands

He's not in the pros yet but he may be in a couple of years. I can't remember his name but he pitches for Creighton and I saw on the news the other night that he can throw right handed and left handed depending on who's batting of course. I got to thinking what happens when a switch hitter comes up to bat. Which has to make the first decision? My guess is the batter since he has to step in the batter's box but i don't know? I think his last name is vendette. First time I've ever heard of a pitcher being good enough to throw D1 college baseball with both hands.
