Just curious but why does Torre get so much more of the blame than Cashman. I'd think Cashman is more at fault considering all the money that is spent on this roster for a 23-29 record.

Re: Have a feeling.....Yankees
I agree, Cashman is the man that needs to be canned however I can also make the argument for firing Torre. It's not because he's not a good manager but when you've been the manager for as long as he has sometimes the message stops getting through. Players have heard everything there is to hear from him and they just may need a new voice and style at the helm.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Have a feeling.....Yankees
No idea. I don't know who the Yankees consider untouchable besides Hughes, and I'm not sure exactly what the Rangers are looking for, but here are some of the bigger names in the Yankees system, some I'm guessing would be talked about.
Jose Tabata (OF): By far their best position player prospect. He's been compared to Manny Ramirez a lot. He's only 18 and is very raw, still has to develop his power. He has great plate discipline for his age. I think most would consider him untouchable, but their have been whispers that he hasn't kept himself in great shape.
Tyler Clippard (SP): Probably the best combination of potential and being major league ready pitcher besides Hughes. I know some people aren't that high on him because he doesn't throw hard, he relies on his secondary pitches a lot, but despite not having great stuff, he's produced at every level, and still has a pretty good k rate. I think he could be kind of like Barry Zito has been since after his great 2002. Won't dominate, but he can be very reliable, rarely missing starts, and can be well above average almost every year.
Joba Chamberlain (SP): He's got ace potential. He's still in single a now but I think he will be going up to AA fairly soon, and they think there's a chance he could maybe be ready for MLB sometime next season if things go well. The concern with him is he has issues keeping his weight under control.
Dellin Betances (SP): Probably has the highest ceiling of any pitcher in the system, including Hughes. He's big and strong, and throws mid-upper 90's. He's still very far away though
Eric Duncan (1b/3b): His status as a real prospect has been dropping, he has back issues, and he hasn't consistently hit well this year or last year. He's got potential but is running out of time. I only list him because he's a 1b, so its possible if the Rangers like him they might consider him as a replacment in the future, not sure what there plan is if they trade Tex.
If they went after him, you might hear about Jeff Marquez, Ian Kennedy, and Alan Horne.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Have a feeling.....Yankees
I think firing Cashman would be a disaster.
Cashman has been far from perfect, however I'm a huge fan of the direction he has the organization going in as far as rebuilding the farm system. If Cashman is fired, chances are he is going to be replaced with someone who will scrap everything he has done, and start getting desperate dealing prospects for aging veterans.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Have a feeling.....Yankees
Cashman has been trying to place the blame on himself all season and Steinbrenner has finally accepted, telling Cashman he is "on the hook". Cashman has said all along that "i" put this team together not Joe, Steinbrenner will look to hold someone accountable for what has happend and that is why Cashman will be fired, possibly before the end of the season.
I don't see Torre being fired during the season. Steinbrener has said Don Mattingly is the heir to Torre's thrown and i don't think Steinbrenner would put Mattingly in a situation where he has to try and right the ship in the middle of the season. So unless Steinbrenner fires Torre and goes Bowa, Mazzilli or Pena as an interim manager until next year i think Torre is safe.Last edited by rsox; 06-02-2007, 10:34 PM.Comment

Re: Have a feeling.....Yankees
We'll see.
Rangers aren't going to get Hughes, and they aren't going to get a player as good as him in any deal either. So if they won't accept less than that I don't think he's going anywhere.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Have a feeling.....Yankees
Cashman has made a lot of very poor decisions with the pitching staff for the last 5-6 years. Who knows how many of these moves were forced by Tampa and the Boss. A ton of starters have came and went in a year or less who were total busts. The bullpen obviously hasn't been good either.
Since 2002 all of these guys failed to live up to the hype, couldn't stay healthy, or their live up to their previous successes as a Yankee....
Jeff Weaver
Steve Karsay
Jose Contreras
Javi Vazquez
Felix Heredia
Gabe White
Felix Hernandez
Kevin Brown
Paul Quantrill
Esteban Loaiza
Randy Johnson
Carl Pavano
Jaret Wright
Kyle Farnsworth
Octavio Dotel
Kei Igawa (sorry, but this idiot isn't going to turn it around)

How much were you expecting out of Gabe White? Who's Felix Hernandez? Let's give Igawa at least a year before we label him as a bust. Seeing Randy Johnson, Carl Pavano, Felix Heredia, Steve Karsay, AND Kevin Brown makes me cringe. That's a lot of pitching mistakes. Cashman wasn't responsible for all of them.NBA: New York Knicks
