I'm not really taking a side of this debate since it doesn't matter, but this part of the argument has no validity. When a football player celebrates, it's all self promotion, he's not rubbing it in the nose of the other team (and when they do, they get flagged). When a hitter lingers at the plate or watches his own HR, it's their way of showing up the pitcher.

When Johnson does a Riverdance after a TD...that is funny! Its silly....standing, flipping the bat and watching the ball go is....showing up the pitcher or arrogance.Comment

If anything football celebrations are worse especially if you believe in the idea of "acting like you've been there." Baseball players are just enjoying their work, nothing wrong with that.
Baseball players don't do it to show up the pitcher. If they were trying to show up the pitcher they would stare down the pitcher with an "I got you" look.
Just another case of hitters being held to ridiculously high standards when it comes to celebrations. All they do is watch it while they go around, nothing wrong with that. Football players go nuts when they get a touchdown and basketball players do fancy dunks when they have a wide open breakaway yet few people call these players out. Give the hitters a break.Comment

Re: Why doesnt Bonds get beaned?
I never understood getting mad at players who stand and stare at their homers. Now if they start doing backflips and the cabbage patch, then I would get it.
Besides, why should a pitcher get mad? If you don't throw such a dumb pitch, you wouldn't get a home run hit off of you. Your fault, dummy.
Bingo.
And I never understood the "unwritten rule" of pitchers hitting a batter. Think about it--dude is INTENTIONALLY hurning a projectile at someone's head/upper body.
On the streets that's called assault.
Tell you what though, if I was a batter and the pitcher intentionally beaned me, if he didn't knock my *** out, I still have the bat in my hand.
What did Joe Clark say in that movie Lean on Me?
"They used to call me Crazy, now they call me Batman!"
I'd be taggin' that bitch upside his head with my bat.Comment

Re: Why doesnt Bonds get beaned?
What I hate the most is when pitchers walk off the mound like they think they have strike three, and then they show up the umpire because they didn't give them a call six inches off of the plate.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Why doesnt Bonds get beaned?
I dunno, I think fist pumps are perfectly fine when you get a big strikeout. I mean, you can't expect a guy to be stone faced after getting out of a jam. To a certain degree, I don't see much of a problem with staring at a ball flying out of the park either. As long as you don't show the pitcher up (like staring at them while you run the bases).
