    MLB All-Star game voting thread

AKA the annual big market popularity contest. Of course, with voting beginning a month into the season how can it be based on anything else? Early vote totals were released a couple days ago, and there were few surprises.

One example of the ridiculousness: The current NL VORP leader is not among the top five vote getters at his position.

My NL ballot now (only league I pay enough attention to)

    C - Russell Martin
    1B - Prince Fielder
    2B - Chase Utley
    3B - Miguel Cabrera
    SS - Hanley Ramirez
    OF - Matt Holliday
    OF - Barry Bonds
    OF - Carlos Lee

this is just the reason why fans should not be in charge of who plays in the game.

Magglio being 7th in AL outfield voting is an absolute joke.

Paul Lo Duca is the leading vote-getter at catcher, ahead of Russell Martin, despite having a worse OBP, SLG, OPS, VORP, fewer RBIs, HRs, runs scored, hits, walks, stolen bases, runners thrown out, you name it.

Then again, any All-Star team that AJ Pierzynski and Mark Redman makes is a complete joke.

Youkilis? Where is Morneau at? The others I can see, the AL is loaded, Victor Martinez is having a great year at catcher, Youkilis, Morneau, Magglio, Alex Rios has looked good, Torii Hunter has looked really good. The list could go on, I would take Morneau over Youkilis though, Morneau is doing it without much around him other then Hunter and maybe Cuddyer where as the entire Boston lineup is potent.

Why don't we just skip the whining and bitching and just conclude that this entire process is flawed, stupid, and not indicative of who the best players in 2007 are.

Magglio ordones deserves to be the starting RF in the All Star game. He leads the AL in RBI and batting average, and is third in HR.

Placido Polanco deserves to be the starting second baseman. He is the ultimate team player. Flawless in the field, and is the best #2 hitter in the game.

My solution for the fans voting the wrong players into the game is this.

Let the fans vote. After the vote is finalized, allow the Commisioner to remove one player from each league, that the fans voted in for one player at that position that is deserving.

Then, allow the manager of each team the same "veto" rule. This will at least eliminate 2 players on each league that the fans may have voted in that werent deserving.

I'd like to see a vote made up of 1/3 fans, 1/3 coaches and GMs, and 1/3 players.

Dump the "one player from each team" crap, aka, Mark "I've got a 6.50 era" Redman.

At least the Royals representative will be worthy this year, as long as Gil Meche doesn't implode anyway..

I think Hardy deserves to go, solid with the bat, and possibly more solid with the glove...
