Duke Snider hits a 3 Run HR (10) in the bottom of the 9th of of Diomedes Olivo of the St. Louis Cardinals to win the game 3-2. Al Jackson wins his 5th (5-5). However, we ended the year 51 - 111. Thank god I was asleep in my crib most of that year.

Re: How did your team do when you were born?
Born 3/31/76. No game for the Pirates that day (1st game was 4/10/76). The Pirates finished 1976 92-70, 9 games back of the Phillies.
Out of my 31 years on this earth, the Pirates have finished above .500 11 times and have 1 World Series (1979). Unfortunately, I only remember 3 seasons above .500 (90-92). Yikes...MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies
NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers
NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins
NBA: Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic
NCAA: Penn State Nittany Lions, Boston College EaglesComment

Re: How did your team do when you were born?
Since I was born at 12:05 AM on August 26th, I guess the game I have a closer claim to would be the one on the 25th.
On the 25th, the Braves won on the road in Philly, 12-2, behind five RBI from Chris Chambliss and three from Murph. The only real thing of note was that it was the last game Dale played at 1B in his ML career. Niekro got the start, and the win.
On the 26th, the Braves again won in Philly, 5-3 in ten innings. Gaylord Perry got the start, with Rick Camp getting the win. Of note because Perry hit the last of his five career HRs in the game.
At the end of August 26th, the Braves were 11-6 in the second half, and in control of first place in the West by a half game. Overall they were 36-35-1 and sitting nine games back.Comment

July 27, 1973 The Orioles won both ends of a double header against the Indians 9-0, 5-2. Finished the year 97-65, winning the AL East but losing to the A's in the ALCS.

"Not wonderment," he said when asked if he was surprising even himself with his hot hand in Virginia's 108-87 victory against Gonzaga on Wednesday night, when he scored a career-best 37 points. "I was just wondering why they didn't play more `D."Comment

Re: How did your team do when you were born?
Jeez....I cannot believe how many of you were born after I graduated from High School or College(well left college but that's a different story)
In 1965...my Mets were a DISMAL 50-112 finishing 10th in the N.L.(that's right kiddies....only ONE "division" also known as the NATIONAL LEAGUE
Anyway...on my birthday we lost to the Braves...."what?" you say oh young ones.....Atlanta wasn't in the league in 1965!.....true my friends...very true...it was the MILWAUKEE BRAVES who beat the Mets 8-6 that day.......HANK AARON and EDDIE MATHEWS homered for the Braves that day....and doing the catching for the Braves....JOE TORRE!..
The losing pitcher for the Mets that day...none other than Warren Spahn....
Wrap your brains around that one!...

Re: How did your team do when you were born?
The Rockies were not a team until 10 years later (born in '83)...but in their first year on my birthday - June 29th, 1993 - they lost 6-4 at Atlanta to fall to 26-49 and a whopping 24.5 games out of first. However, for a bright spot, Andres Galarraga was hitting .411 up through that date.Comment
